    Actually, the Keystone Cops, like most of Sennett's shorts, were silent.

    It would be a definite benefit if some TV cop programs with the language they use were silent too... Brother Glen:Frown

    Yes. And in between the scenes there is a blank with writing on it explaining what is happening or what is being said.

    Have you ever seen one?

    Is there a reason you are trying to misdirect the discussion?

    I agree. It is looking to authority, as TCassidy said, but I think scripture also points to being "Christ-like" in our prayers. Too often "in Jesus name" is no more than taking God's name in vain.

    Great post! Is it not required? "From here if you ask for anything IN MY NAME it will be given". I agree, no requirement, but if the aforementioned is correct, which it is, wouldn't we pray that way? "Pray in my name, receive this promise", it follows that promise doesn't apply if we don't.

    When I pray, I say "I come to you Father IN THE NAME OF JESUS", not as magical words, but it is HE who bridged the gulf between the Father and man, He is the door, He is the reason we are righteous, He is the reason the Father forgives our sins. If I were to put in a vote I'd say it's crazy to pray in our own, sinful self when a KING says we can pray in His name.

    If we were going to a Kings palace to ask the King for favor, would we ask in our name, or ask in the Kings Son name? Just my 2 cents

    Just being honest, I have not prayed formal or structured prayers in many years. I talk to God just like I talk to my earthly father. They do not make for good sounding prayers in church service, but it's all real.

    I didn't think anything bad about it, haven't really did a in-depth study on it, it's why put "Just my 2 cents":) But thinking about it, well maybe that's my next study:)

    Here's a interesting piece;

    "Praying in Jesus’ name means praying with His authority and asking God the Father to act upon our prayers because we come in the name of His Son, Jesus. Praying in Jesus' name means the same thing as praying according to the will of God, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15). Praying in Jesus’ name is praying for things that will honor and glorify Jesus.

    Saying “in Jesus’ name” at the end of a prayer is not a magic formula. If what we ask for or say in prayer is not for God’s glory and according to His will, saying “in Jesus’ name” is meaningless. Genuinely praying in Jesus' name and for His glory is what is important, not attaching certain words to the end of a prayer. It is not the words in the prayer that matter, but the purpose behind the prayer. Praying for things that are in agreement with God’s will is the essence of praying in Jesus’ name."

    Indeed, u have no other grounds to stand before the Father, unless you go through the son.
