I love the rant, but it would only be fair to point out that military members have other benefits (housing, medical, schooling, etc.) that aren't available to burger flippers. That said, most military personnel are underpaid, IMO.

With many benefits the pay is:
E-1 under 4 months..2,904 x 12 = $34,848
E-5 over 3 years.......3,919 x 12 = $47,028
This does NOT include the tax advantage of over $200 a month as housing, clothing, is not taxable.
A GI is entitled to 30 days paid vacation a year
Authorized sick leave is unlimited
No medical bills
There are dozen of special pays including
Family Separation....250/month
Combat pay............225/month
and as ITL stated : members have other benefits -
So why are there mature age burgermeisters? No jobs available at a guess....

- blown up
- lose arms, legs and other body parts
- long separation from family
- sleep on the ground for days at a time
- PTSD
- watch friends die
The benefits just keep piling up. -
Or in the case of the Vietnam war....have babies deformed by chemical defoliants. Our soldier is off to where the ISIS is mucking about...
