In 1868, the Klan in South Carolina issued a push-card about the size of a baseball card. 155 It pictured 63 "Radicals"; they were all Republicans. (The Democrats called Repub*licans "radicals" because the Republican Party was bi-racial and allowed blacks to vote and to participate in the political process, 116 thus making them "radical" in the eyes of Democrats.) Of the 63 "Radicals" — or Republicans — in the South Carolina legislature, 50 were black and 13 white.

Democrats Smeared MLK in the 1960's
Character assassination. That's the tactic used by Democrats in the 1960's to
discredit Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. a Republican who was fighting the
Democrats and trying to stop them from denying civil rights to blacks.
The relentless disparagement of Dr. King by Democrats led to his being
physically assaulted and ultimately to his tragic death. In March of 1968, while
referring to Dr. King's leaving Memphis, Tennessee after riots broke out where
a teenager was killed, Democrat Senator Robert Byrd, a former member of the
Ku Klux Klan, called Dr. King a "trouble-maker" who starts trouble, but runs
like a coward after trouble is ignited. A few weeks later, Dr. King returned to
Memphis and was assassinated on April 4, 1968.

KKK Terrorist Arm of the Democratic Party
By Frances Rice
History shows that the Ku Klux Klan was the terrorist arm of the Democrat Party.
This ugly fact about the Democrat Party is detailed in the book, A Short History of Reconstruction, (Harper & Row Publishers, Inc., 1990) by Dr. Eric Foner, the renown liberal historian who is the DeWitt Clinton Professor of History at Columbia University.
As a further testament to his impeccable credentials, Professor Foner is only the second person to serve as president of the three major professional organizations: the Organization of American Historians, American Historical Association, and Society of American Historians.
Democrats in the last century did not hide their connections to the Ku Klux Klan.
Georgia-born Democrat Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan wrote on page 21 of the September 1928 edition of the Klan’s “The Kourier Magazine”: “I have never voted for any man who was not a regular Democrat.
My father … never voted for any man who was not a Democrat.
My grandfather was …the head of the Ku Klux Klan in reconstruction days….
My great-grandfather was a life-long Democrat….
My great-great-grandfather was…one of the founders of the Democratic party.”

Blacks Racial Discrimination Suit Against Obama & Democrats
On September 11, 2011, blacks from the West Coast and the East Coast joined together and signed one of the most comprehensive legal briefs ever prepared on racial discrimination, then filed their brief September 12th, at 9:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time in US District Court in Seattle (Case No. C11 - 1503). The plaintiffs, who refer to the defendants as "Father of Racism," allege that as an organization, the Democratic Party has consistently refused to apologize for the role they played in slavery and Jim Crow laws and for other subsequent racist practices from 1792 to 2011. Rev. Wayne Perryman, a former Democrat himself and the lead plaintiff in this class action lawsuit, said he was inspired to file this action after seeing the recent movie The Help. The movie takes place in the region that was exclusively controlled by Democrats for more than 150 years (the South). Mrs. Frances P. Rice, the Chair of the National Black Republican Association is also a plaintiff in the lawsuit. Mrs. Rice is a resident of Sarasota, Florida and has lived in the the South most of her life.

Smith, George introduce 'Southern Manifesto,' March 12, 1956
On this day in 1956, Rep. Howard Smith (D-Va.), chairman of the House Rules Committee, introduced the “Southern Manifesto” in a speech on the House floor, while Sen. Walter George (D-Ga.) introduced it in the Senate.
Smith asserted that the ship of state had “drifted from her moorings” and described the U.S. Supreme Court’s civil rights record as one of “repeated deviation” from the fundamental separation of powers and constitutionally implied autonomy of the states. Several Southerners rose to applaud Smith’s remarks. No one stood to speak against them.
The document, formally titled the Declaration of Constitutional Principles, was signed by 82 representatives and 19 senators, about a fifth of the congressional membership — including everyone from the states of the former Confederacy.
As an opponent of racial integration, Smith used his Rules chairmanship to keep much civil rights legislation from coming to a vote on the House floor. When the Civil Rights Act of 1957 came before his committee, Smith said, “The Southern people have never accepted the colored race as a race of people who had equal intelligence ... as the white people of the South.”

Former black slaves leave a legacy; the Republican Party
Many former slaves left a political legacy that’s been ignored or completely forgotten by their descendants–even during Black History Month.
As they struggled against the violence and racism of the mid-1800’s, it’s likely they thought the inheritance they left would continue to improve the lives of their descendants.
Their legacy is the Republican Party.
For decades, Black people have given over 90 percent of their votes to the Democrat Party. The Democrats can always count on strong support from the Black Community.
But that certainly wasn’t the case during the mid-1800’s. During that time, the Republican Party led the fight against strong Democrat opposition to pass the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution. The amendments abolished slavery, granted blacks citizenship and the right to vote. It was clear to all Black people who their friends were in the political arena.

It has always saddened me that when I was a child in the 60's and 70's our school social studies defined Australian history beginning with white settlement, as the official stance was that the Great South Land was uninhabited.
Fortunately, things have changed in Australia and elsewhere. The ultimate insult is to be ignored I think.
Some history is known of the first peoples in Australia, but ask most folk and they would not be able to name 6 tribes of the very many that existed prior to "Settlement".

History requires a written language
"History" requires written records. What we have is a "white and black history month."

My point is that black history began when white people taught black people to read and write.

So in your view, Bill, history depends on literacy? What about oral history? And as for "white" people teaching literacy to others, I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that the people who "invented" writing were probably the Sumerians, and I don't think their skins were white.
But perhaps you were just thinking of some white-skinned people (Americans) teaching some black-skinned people (slaves and their descendants) how to read and write English.
That still wouldn't mean that the black-skinned people had no history prior to that - of course they did!

Recorded history is the period in history of the world after prehistory. It has been written down using language, or recorded using other means of communication. It starts around the 4th millennium BC, with the invention of writing.

Many black Africans spoke and wrote Arabic but these were the slavers who sold slaves to white people. The village tribal people who were captured and sold were pre-historical.

OK, now I understand (I think!) - you were not referring to "history" in the sense: "the past events of a period in time or in the life or development of a people, an institution, or a place".
You meant (it seems) "the history of a people written by themselves."
Is that what this thread is restricted to?

It's ignorant to suggest blacks are and have always been on the same playing field.
White people have always had the advantage in this country's sordid history of race relations. It doesn't take a liberal to understand this.
There are millions of scholarships that are for whites only. The titles just don't reflect that fact.

Huh...what are they?

You know exactly what I mean. Whites have way more opportunities to receive scholarships than blacks.
