(Reuters) - A Japanese man who was mystified when food kept disappearing from his kitchen, set up a hidden camera and found an unknown woman living secretly in his closet, Japanese media said Friday.
Let me tell you, I've seen one room apartments over here about the size of a large American walk in closet! And if it's down in Tokyo, you might pay $500 a month to rent such a place! :tonofbricks:
So, the Japanese are used to living in small places.
I've seen the japanese apartments on tv before, they are tiny, and I was amazed at how they learn to live with it very naturally. It looks like they own less stuff and junk then we do in this country.
But closet size I hadn't seen. Now that is tiny. Does that include a bed and a place to cook and a bathroom?
This reminds me of a story I once heard about a man who kicked out a lodger because he wouldn't pay his rent. Then he started to notice things going missing and it turned out the lodger had been hiding in the attic for six months
You know, every now and then, a story just like this pops up.
It makes my skin crawl (and just a little paranoid, too!).
It's a good thing neither of the tenents was a violent person.
I read a book once, was supose to be a true story.
This man had been living in the crawl space in the basement of these older people's house, and sneaking into the house from the basement to get food. They eventually found him, and I don't remember, he killed them or tried to kill them. Beena about 20 yrs since I read it don't remember the details.
So yes it is scary.
Well, it wouldn't include a bed, but a place to store the futon, a mat for sleeping on the floor. And it would have a sink and a little two-burner stove, and probably a toilet. :type:
Take 125 million people, stick them in a country smaller than California, but 65% mountainous, and you have Japan! Add earthquakes and typhoons, stir in lots of fish, both raw and cooked. That's how we lived in Yokohama in a four room apartment for many years before moving up here to Hokkaido, which has much more room since it was colonized much later than the rest of the country.
So, a one room apartment up here is a little bigger. One of our believers lives in a two room (sort of) apartment, which has what you would call a hall going back to the main part of the abode, but it's really his kitchen, about four by six feet. He has a space about ten by ten feet for his actual living quarters. I think he pays about $400 rent. He does have a bathroom and shower, though--high class, because many of them don't have a shower, so they have to go to a public bath house.
I have only been to Fukuoka. It is very modern, almost futuristic. And it is very clean and well-organized.Japan is the 2nd wealthiest nation in the world. They have to keep their lodgings small by necessity. Things are run super-efficiently.I am favorably impressed.
Now, I have had only a glimpse of this one city ( on several occasions), JoJ is much more familiar with the nation as a whole. I am sure there are poverty-stricken areas where my observations would not apply.
Of course, I have not addressed the issue of sin and how rampant it is in that country. South Korea is more conservative in some respects in comparison.
Hey, Rip, are you up late there in Korea or something? I've got to hit the sack--up early tomorrow.
Most of Japan is very modern, and just as Rip has said. However, there is so much sin that is covered up, and many things that Americans consider wicked are not even illegal here: wife-beating (technically illegal but almost never prosecuted--unless she dies), public drunkenness, owning child porno, etc. etc.
But I love the Japanese people, and pray daily for God to use me to save more. :type:
