The story in the link is absolute nonsense. Twenty-four square miles?? Hogwash!! It's 24 acres and about eight feet deep. That's only 6,400 percent exaggeration, so no big deal, I guess.
Well, this was the first I've heard of this, I simply thought the video was impressive and folks might like to see it. I simply copy and pasted the article there, I have no clue how accurate the story was.
What is so incredible about a man man disaster being 24 square miles? How many square miles do you think the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico affected a couple of years ago? 24 square miles would be the size of a postage stamp compared to that.
I don't know of anyone that has the time or ability to verify every single story on the internet, that doesn't mean we can't post it. People can judge for themselves if the story is true.
I'm not picking on anyone on particular. However I do think we have a responsibility to check on things we post before we post them here, on FB, or anywhere else.
Do you use that same logic when you post or talk about scripture?
If you put out false information about something like this without taking the time to check it out, what else have you put out that's false--including your arguments regarding Calvinism--because you "didn't have the time" to verify that your information was accurate?
Don't bow up against the pin-pricks, brother; accept the reproof and carry on.
Give me a break, nobody can investigate every story on the internet. Am I the first person ever to share a story where the facts weren't entirely accurate? Right.
And it has nothing to do with my arguments from scripture. Those are my personal arguments, I do not copy and paste what "theologians" say. If anything, it is my opponents that do that, and often their information is just as erroneous as this story was.
I liked the video Winman. Saw it earlier. Roll with the punches. With the veracity that people post stories on here, I'm sure that you're the only one who doesn't go through and checks all the facts in the stories.
You folks give the man a break. If someone else on the conservative Redstate site hadn't done a checking of facts for you and printed their story, you never would have glanced twice at what the Mother Jones quote said and simply been awed by the video.
His quote had the size of the area wrong. I don't know of anyone else going through that much detail to check to see if every number in a story is correct or not?
Of course not, but I point it out as a matter of course. People are looking for reasons to mock us. If we don't check things out before we post them why should they believe our posts on Biblical issues?
Yes, I do think we should be above reproach in presenting the truth in everything is post and share.
I agree. And I know, just based on the number of stories that some folks post, that ain't no one
checking those stories for accuracy. Usually if someone posts something from one of our favorite sites , we just repost it and everyone comments assuming it is truthful.
The only time anyone seems to question a story is if someone else from another of those sites we visit has called something into question.
Perhaps that's your practice. Personally, before I post anything from another source, I make sure other sources agree on the facts. A simple Google search is all it takes, using a few words accurately reflecting the basic storyline described on the site I intend to post. If I find the facts differ, I don't post.
"No one"? Sorry, but that constitutes "brazen lie."
There are several of us that actually do check out stories before we post them. We take pride in being as truthful, honest, and credible as we can.
Now, there are a lot of posts that show up just like Winman's; and those same people (just like in this thread) take them to task for posting something that isn't correct.
However, most of those other people simply respond with, "oops, my mistake." They don't try to justify their mistake by saying "I'm not the only one." They man up and take responsibility for their error.
Or they lie about what wars one may support, or lie about groups of people they supposedly hate, or they lie about the value one places on other's lives. I wish that garbage would be admonished once in a while.
Well when I see someon start to refute some of the brazen lies that are posted in a ot of the stories other than Crabtownboy, I'll take back my statement. Otherwise, it's a brazen lie to call it a brazen lie.
And there areseveral of you who just post anything simply because it speaks to the point you want to make.
And no one has a problem with that. The problem arises with certain people acting like he committed a capital offense just because he quoted someone who had their facts incorrect. Give the man a break.
Perhaps because the rebuke, admonishment or whatever yall want to call it
from the many on here is never gentle, but rather like an attack of the killer pirhanha.
You know, I was not trying to make any point whatsoever by posting this video, I just thought it was amazing to see tall trees swallowed up in moments by a sinkhole. I included the text just to explain what folks were looking at. But I wasn't trying to make any political or environmental statements at all.
I didn't really spend much time reading the article. It was the video I thought folks might enjoy. That's why I titled it "Incredible video".
Next time I'll just show the video. If I would have included the link I guess I still would have been accused of falsehood.
