I'd like to believe that the Miley Cyruses of the world, as well as the Alex Baldwins, the Kanya Wests, the T.O.Ps, the Lady Gagas, etc, -- to cover a gamut of sociopolitical nonsense -- were irrelevant to reality. None of them, obviously, are in touch with it, for certain. However, when these are the leading influences in the lives of young people across the western world, I'd be a fool to say that.
Miley may be "in a rebellious stage" but what effect does she have on people her age and much younger while she's trying to "find herself"? Unfortunately, the destruction these "stars" bring into young people's lives today is of far greater danger than Elvis' gyrating hips or the mopheads sported by the Beatles. It was an attempt to be "edgy" that led Elvis to drink, do drugs and buy Cadillacs for everyone in sight. It was "edginess" that led the Beatles to do psychedelic drugs and wear psychedelic clothes while preaching "peace, love and LSD." Unfortunately, the effects seen in Elvis' drinks and drugs, and even of the Beatles' behind-the-scenes drug usage and out-front political commentary, are nothing compared to Miley picking up a "found joint" on stage and lighting up, are nothing compared to the destructive political fare offered by people who have no talent to begin with, and certainly no qualification to make comments on affairs of the world.
Those past pop icons didn't do their deeds in public. They talked about them, to be certain, but they kept them out of sight, which led young people who wanted to emulate them to do the same -- keep their sin out of sight. Now, we have pop stars who want to sin in front of everyone, and spread their poisonous and ill-thought-out socialist tripe without aptitude or knowledge, and expect the world to unthinkingly approve it!
Yes, not just America, but the world, needs revival, RD2. The question is, will God give us the time to "revive" or will He just bring judgment, because it's time?
