Never touch it :D

Seriously: the internet is a public place and there is
NO ROOM for anything but total personaly accountability.
Or, are you still stalking children?

It shouldn't always be about children. Children have parents that should be watching them or they shouldn't be allowed to have them.
If you have children keep the computer out of their room and install software to monitor them and keep them from viewing certain things.
Parents are responsible for their children. It doesn't take a village to raise a child. -
- That's a private business...not government. An ISP can screw our lives up, but they can't arrest us.
- Most of us are NOT "perfectly willing" for an illegal to handle our data...but we're somewhat stuck.
- If the government would do it's job worth a flip, there wouldn't be an illegal handling our data with the ISP. They'd be arrested and deported. But since the government does not find it necessary to enforce the laws on the books, then these folks have this access. So in a sense, the example this guy used is a problem exacerbated by government.

The Scribe wants government to watchdog
unworthy parents:
//Children have parents
that should be watching them
or they shouldn't be allowed to have them.
How is the government & which level is going
to oversee unworthy parents?
Rbell wants government to watchdog
the ISPs & other internet entities:
//If the government would do it's job worth a flip,
there wouldn't be an illegal handling
our data with the ISP.//
How is the government & which level is going
towatchdog the ISPs?
Gb93433 wants government to watchdog
government watchdoging of illegals
& their SS Cards:
//Many illegals have more
than one social security card too. I know
someone who worked in a hospital who
saw a lady who had six on her person.//
How is the government & which level is going
to watchdog government warchdoging of illegals?
LeBuick wants the government to watchdog
definitions:
//What a concept, we'll just change
the definition of the word to conform
to our wishes. Now we got them!//
How is the government & which level is going
to watchdog on-line definitions?
JFox1 wants the government to watchdog
the handling of our personal information:
//The government is incapable of handling our
personal informaiton in a responsible way. //
How is the government & which level is going
to watchdog the handling of our personal info?
IMHO, we all agree with the
expert in the O.P.:
//Privacy no longer can mean anonymity, ... //
Sorry, you can't bell the cat without violating
the cats anonymity. -

-
//I never said the government should
watchdog our personal information. //
Here is what you did say:
//The government is incapable of handling our
personal informaiton in a responsible way. //
IMHO if the government is judged 'incapable
of handling' then they were held responsible
and FAILED.
Thus, IMHO, you as good as said that
in your IMHO: "the
government should watchdog our
personal information".
Jesus said in Mat 22:20-21 (Tyndale):
And he sayde vnto them: whose is this ymage
and superscripcion?
21 They sayde vnto him: Cesars. Then sayde he
vnto them. Geve therfore to Cesar that which
is Cesars: and geve vnto god that which is goddes. -

Answer the question:
How is the government & which level is going
to watchdog the handling of our personal info?
Thank you.
Which level/government is incapable? -
So much for privacy. People openly talk on cell phones in front of others who can easily listen.
-
The government should be watching all employers to make sure they hire legal workers.
That is government's job. And they can't do that right.
It had nothing to do with "watchdog the ISP's." It had to do with not hiring illegals. -
- The VA can't do it. It's lost thousands of items of personal info.
- The IRS's procedure is shoddy and a breach is imminent:
- Voting records aren't safe...
- HHS screws up on private information...even after several warnings & deadlines:
Well....does that illustrate well-enough that government can't do very well with regards to private information?
(hint: Yes) -
The Indian Bureau has lost some 40 Billion dollars worth
of individual American Indian's trust money. Now
the state & local governments are letting them get even by
fleecing people hooked on gambling. The state governments
also spend billions of dollars a year on trying to get
people that are hooked on gambling unhooked.
Then there is one part of government helping tobacco raisers
and another part trying to get people to quit smoking. -

1 Nov 2007: Oklahoma takes the illegal immigrants bull by it's
horns & took a throw:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/11/02/oklahoma.immigration/
The job raids have been largely in the rural three counties
of the Oklahoma Panhandle. Some say there are more
illegal immigrants there than voters.
My Grandson in a High School in Central Oklahoma
(AKA: God's Country) says half the Hispanics are gone
from the school??? -
But I don't see how this has anything to do with the government deciding private citizens don't need privacy.
