i read quickly through this site, it seems pretty good from my quick review, here is an excerpt>>>>The answer to Acts 16:30 from the coming new pagan, Evangelical, Catholic Bible Version will probably read like this: "Pray a prayer and invite Jesus into your heart and commit your life to Him right now. Of course, you must really mean it. You must not trust in just mere intellectual assent. It must be from your heart, not your head". http://www.daveandangel.com/CRN/How_To_Be_Saved_Through_Belief.shtml
The heart is a muscle, an organ. It does not have the facilities to think or reason. It pumps blood and oxygen to the brain. The brain is the organ that thinks.
If we do not have a head knowledge of the gospel, then we have nothing. Obviously, head knowledge must be believed and not just received. Too often fundamentalists talk about believing in the heart and it makes no sense. You better explain what "heart" means.
that is interesting jim that you say fundamentalist, the article says it is mostly a liberal error, but i think the error and this type of thinking is both fundamentalist and liberals. i have posted on a fundamental board and it seems that some believe in the mechanics of altar calls and they are apologist for the cause.
Unfortunately
you seem unqualified to
make the judgement: "it seems pretty good
from my quick review"
In fact, there are no independantly verifiable FACTS in
your quote and not much more at your referenced
site.
I'm offended that you expect us to
do your footwork for you.
When you have
have some training in using the internet
to do research, please repost.
For now
we will just ignore you.
Unbridled zeal
is the opposite of "self control".
The Bible speaks of "self control" as
one of the virtues.

</font>
are you speaking for everyone on this board ed????
if not your zeal to speak for every person could offend. please use self control so as not to speak for everyone unless you know for sure. until then i shall just ignore you.
Massdak: "are you speaking for everyone on this board ed????"
If you would read more and talk less,
if you read a few of my posts, then
you would know i not only do NOT presume to speak for others,
but i only speak about 60% for myself
What is "new pagan, Evangelical, Catholic Bible Version"?
Personally it sounds like a triple oxymoron to
me
;)
Yeah, I am familiar with that website and has some good articles.
My answer is no to your question.
Sounds like lip service to me "asking and inviting".
There HAS to be belief to be saved.
Matt 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mark 13:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Luke 10:27...Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
Looks like a pretty sound all around commitment to me.
Heart...Soul...Mind...Strength, pretty much covers all the bases.
this is interesting, i received an email where it is mentioned that you go on a very liberal board just to slam fundamentalist. it seems very irresponsible for someone of your age to make fun of other peoples post in a liberal forum. so i see you come here to get your material and then take it over to a nonthinking board to belittle people.
shame on you and shame on that other board.
so here is more material for your gossiping
But, at least I am a fundemental conservative fundementalist.
</font>
I don't know Brother Artimaeus,
i always figured you as a model moderate
fundamentalist.
Title question: "is asking and inviting the same as believing?"
Which, in the English Massdak needs to learn would
be: "Is asking and inviting the same as believing?
My short answer is: yes.
I'll be glad to give my long answer, if perchance
anybody wants to actually have a topic that
is on the subject of the stated topic.
I've been a trained & practicing
invitation councilor
for probably 28 years.
So i've collected
lots of antidotal information.
It is quite clear from Scripture that "heart" is an appropriate term for this. To blame this on fundamentalists is absurd. I am pretty sure when anyone talks about believeing in your heart (cf Rom 10:10), no one is really questioning how their blood pumping muscle does this. The apparent reasoning behind this post seems ludicrous. Have you ever talked to anyone who thought that their blood pumping muscle believed? If so, you must run in some very strange circles. We use "heart" in this manner frequently, such as when we say "I love you with all my heart." We all know what it means.
This seems yet another attempt simply to inject your personal bias about fundamentalists. Why argue with the scriptural terms?? If Scripture had no problem with it, then neither should we.
The phrases "head knowledge" and heart knowledge" that some preachers use, I believe, are confusing.
I think I understand what they mean, but Pastor Larry
or anyone else, how do you explain the difference?
i believe most liberals confuse asking and inviting with believing, but i also believe some liberal fundamentalist are confused as well, i have recently heard testimony how someone felt they were saved describing how the wept buckets of tears as the walked the isle to the altar call. sincerity no matter how emotional is not the same as trust. some would say that heart belief is synonymous with sincerity.
my opinion is that reliance on Christ for salvation alone is the answer
yea, i sorta invented that for them, those who are on the armenian doctrine seem to lean toward props and extra biblical tools to help the gospel along, such as altar calls and guided prayers
Intellectual knowledge vs. Commitment. Head knowledge and heart knowledge are not biblical distinctions though they may be appropriate. I think those are confusing. To believe in your heart is a biblical term. Your heart is your whole person ... mind, will, and emotions. It is commitment to the person of Christ.
