Is this excessive discipline?

I agree with JD Canady, not enough information -- but will add that, on the surface, disciplining with a spray bottle sounds weird, but not necessarily excessive.

If she laid hands on her students to discipline them, the article says she shoved them, then she went too far as per the law. I agree with corporal punishment, but I also know to obey the law, lest I get in trouble.

Mr Crandall was my principal through grade school. He had a paddle that said "Board of Education" on it. Mr Crandall had ample opportunity to educate me during those years. I do not believe he squelched my personality or caused me unresolved issues that followed me into adulthood.

We got reacquainted a few years ago and became pretty close.

My grade school principal was a jack wagon. I still see him ever so often in town. He is still a jack wagon.

The big problem I see is that they have been arrested - and face possible jail time.

What I am waiting to hear is what their union has to say.
