September 8, 2008 - It could yield the greatest scientific discovery known to man or annihilate every living being on earth, but the Large Hadron Collider will be firing up this week with the first proton beam set to start this Wednesday. For those unaware or unfamiliar with the Large Hadron Collider, the LHC is a particle accelerator housed within 17 kilometers of tunnels underneath the Franco-Swiss border, nearest to Geneva, Switzerland. The project has attracted scientists and researchers from practically every nation in the world, and has cost nearly $4 billion to fund.

The scientists at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, hope to get a first-hand look at some of the smallest particles in existence and learn more about the earliest moments of the universe's creation. By a series of superconducting magnets, the LHC will, for lack of a better term, smash the aforementioned particles together and in the process fill in some of the biggest gaps in particle theorem.

If this is true, they might find a bang from the big 'G' God.

I don't see the big deal. Since creation, man has continued in his quest for knowledge. Since the universe most likely did start in a big bang of sorts, I don't see why they are trying to be little gods :confused:

Who or what caused the creation of the universe? I'm not buying big bang.
But we have seen in scripture there are problems when man starts playing God.

No I don't. Many creationists believe the big bang theory as God's doing. The universe is expanding outward, which leads to a single point from which it was formed. This in itself leads to a single point in time where everything was formed, the creation in Genesis.

So if the "big bang" was caused by God you wouldn't be a buyer?

The big bang theory as created by evolutionists is contrary to the creation account.

Actually, secular atheistic scientist are now blasting the big bang theory because it points to a single source of creation and the creation of time...both things only God could have done, not by random chance. Ironic how evolutionists in their quest to take God out of the equation completely came upon the one thing that points to the Creator.

That is funny. Though they would say it doesn't necessarily prove there is a God.

I saw a website a while back which made a reasonably decent argument for a Big Bang caused by God. I think there probably is something in that theory.

Recreating the "Big Bang".

What do you think about the scientists in Geneva trying to recreate the Big Bang? Apparantly, the multi billion dollar project got started today. Obviously, they can't recreate something that never happened in the first place-any thoughts? :godisgood:

I am pretty sure the big bang theory was opposed when it first came out because the secularist felt it gave too strong an argument for the existence of God. Go figure.

That is correct. The original proposer of the expanding universe theory, now known as the Big Bang, was Georges Lemaitre, a Roman Catholic priest and professor of physics. It was criticized for sounding too much like the creation story and those who opposed it supported Hoyle's steady state model which did not depend on the universe having an origin.

The discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation in 1965 strongly supported Lemaitre's theory and lead to the demise of Hoyle's steady state model.
