The 1 Peter passage is not the only one to be considered; Ephesians 4:9 also speaks of Jesus descending to the dead and supports the 1 Peter passage.

First Peter 3:18 is also linked with the supposed descent of Christ into sheol/hades. While there between His death and resurrection He announced His victory over sin and removed those in the paradise compartment to heaven. More likely, however, the verse means that the preincarnate Christ preached through Noah to those who, because they rejected that preaching, are now spirits in prison. 18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.
He was put to death in the body; this is about the time of Jesus’ crucifixion.
He went and preached to the spirit in prison; this is about spirits in prison.
19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison

8 This is why it says:
“When he ascended on high,
he led captives in his train
and gave gifts to men.”
9 (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) -
This is a post I wrote and hope that it blesses someone else.
Faith in Jesus Christ makes those belonging to God perfect, even those who died before Jesus’ ministry on earth.* The Old Testament righteous people who died before Jesus came to earth, they did not in their time get to see the promised salvation through Jesus Christ, the grace that was to come (1 Peter 1:10-12; 2 Peter 1:19; Romans 16:25-26; 1 Corinthians 4:1).* Paul says about the faithful in the Old Testament times, "These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised.* God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect."* God's grace through faith in Jesus made the spirits of the righteous, those who had died before Jesus, they in the spirit were made perfect together with Paul and the other first Christians (Hebrews 12:23; 11:39-40).* The Old Testament faithful were alive in the spirit watching from heaven.* Paul says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses..."* Jesus also tells us Abraham waited to see his day, Abraham saw it and was glad (John 8:56).* Abraham died, yet was alive in the spirit.
There were those who disobeyed and died before Jesus came to earth, though they were dead their spirits went to a prison, unlike the spirits of the righteous. After Jesus was crucified, he preached to those who were dead, he preached to the spirits in prison, the spirits of those who had died and disobeyed long ago (see 1 Peter 3:18-19).* Those people who disobeyed and died before learning of Jesus...Jesus preached the gospel to them, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit (1 Peter 4:5-6).* For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring us to God, even those who lived and died before Jesus.
You see, Jesus came to earth and taught those on earth.* Then Jesus descended to the spirits in prison to preach to them, to those who disobeyed long ago.* Jesus then ascended higher than all the heavens.* Jesus filled the whole universe (see Ephesians 4:10).
These scriptures show we have living, thinking spirits that live on after the death of the body.* Some spirits go with those who disobey, and spirits of the righteous live in heaven.* These scriptures show that our spirits live on, and how Jesus filled the whole universe.
Rejoice at Jesus saving us, and rejoice at knowing without a doubt that the Word of God tells us we have spirits that live on. -
Your message of universal salvation is a dangerous message. It deceives many into believing they will be saved when in reality they will ultimately end up in the lake of fire.
I reject your universal salvation doctrine, as anyone should. -

That particular interpretation of Christ actually ascending into hell could be intepreted simply as Christ actually confirming the just condemnation of those in hell for rejecting the light they were given. If that interpretation is accepted that Christ actually descended into hell, then it would be in perfect keeping with payment of sin which requires the sinner to enter that domain as well - perfect substitutionary atonement. -
In the story about Lazarus and the rich man, Jesus finishes the story by saying the brothers would not believe even if someone comes back alive from the dead---THAT IS ABOUT JESUS, for Jesus came back from the dead, but people still do not believe in him.
When Jesus went to those spirits in prison, they have not heard the truth yet.

First, not a single solitary word you said about Lazerus contradicted or overturned what I said - nada, zilich. The story still teaches no second chances after death - a gulf that cannot be crossed after death.
Second, sin is what sends people to hell not ignorance of the gospel. If ignorance of the gospel keeps people from eternal damnation then let us all be silent and keep all the world ignorant!
None of these texts teach that the gopel was or ever will be preached in hell for a second chance of salvation. That is your baseless presumption. Hebrews 9:27 still says the judgement come after death NOT A SECOND CHANCE! -
So many religious people in the world do not want to be judged for their sins.. They would love the version of 'the gospel" that Moriah and MW teach, for it gives them a second chance, or allows them to unlock the gates of hell from the inside and escape the eternal punishment God has promised to all who die not knowing His Son.
The Bible teaches of a different hell than the one that Moriah and MW present... much, much different. -

If a person never heard the truth, then how it is a second chance when they finally do hear the truth. -
However, in the story of Lazarus, Jesus had not died yet. Jesus went back to those who died before he was crucified.
It matters if we ever hear the true gospel or not. It matters so much so, that Jesus went to those who were dead to preach the gospel.
Revelation 9:20-21 The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood--idols that cannot see or hear or walk.
Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts. -

Sin is what sends people to hell not failure to hear the gospel! They are condemned to hell because they rebell against the LIGHT they are given - they willfully violate their own conscience wherein is inscribed NATURAL LIGHT of right and wrong or so says Paul in Romans 2:14-15! They are judged IN HELL according to their rebellion against the light they were given! Sin is what sends a person to hell not ignorance of the gospel! Sin is sufficient to condemn them in hell "according to their works."
If there is a second chance for those in hell, what kind of a FOOL suffering the pangs of hell would not accept it and thus empty out hell completely of both man and demons! I will tell you why none in hell would accept the gospel if it were preached to them in hell - All who are in hell are completely void of love and completley filled with HATRED for God - there are no GOOD people in hell. They are at "enmity with God and NOT subject to the law of God and NEITHER INDEED CAN BE."
If not, then pray tell why did not Abraham offer the rich man a SECOND CHANCE?? Why did he tell him the gulf between him and the rich man is uncrossable? Why didn't Jesus say the rich man was made and accepted such an offer??? -
They claim the Holy spirit reveklaed this "truth" to them, as jesus died spiritually on Cross, became a sinner, had to get born again in hell to overcome the Devil...
fred price holds that Jesus died and became a sinner while in the garden...
he suffered 'hell" on the Cross during that time, as he was the sin bearer, and he who knew no sin became sin on our behalf!
Hinn ties this in with serpant upon Cross in wilderness, as messiah become a sinner, demon possessed!
ALL of that teaching is from hell, and has NOT come from God! -
Yet, millions of people are caught up in the sins of the flesh and worldly pleasure and therefore reject the things of God.
They who die never hearing the Gospel have had their chance to seek God and would not. There is no second chance after death. -
