As a conservative (fundamentalist) that is exactly why
I won't be feeding Carter's pig.

I even witnessed to two or three of thelm.

 

Totally irrevant. The discussion is not about who you worship but who is trying to bring Baptista together.

 

Bill Clinton is also heavily involved in this. I believe Bill and brother Jimmy are trying to unite non-fundamental Baptists to support Hillary Clinton in her run for President. Jimmy couldn't run the economy (remember the interest rates?), the military (remember the Iranian hostage incident), and now he seeks to undermine the current POTUS in his absurd statements - something that was not done to him - I think his brain has left the earth long before his body has.

 

Brother Ed, you're the only one on this thread who seems to remember the Baptist distinctive of the autonomy of the local church! :thumbs: As soon as you "unite Baptists" we are no longer Baptists! We can cooperate (and we do in many ways), but you can't unite us! Unity to me presupposes some kind of bureaucratic structure, and that ain't gonna happen in the way Carter hopes.

I'm reminded of back after Carter was elected president and I was driving through Georgia on missionary deputation. As I passed the exit to Carter's home town, I saw a huge billboard sign saying:

"We, the farmers of Georgia, apologize for helping put Jimmy Carter in the White House!" :laugh: :laugh:

Except that it bothers me when he makes critical statements of current administrations. (He has done so with Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2)

I don't like seeing any of our former Presidents do that. And no one but Carter has done so with any regularity.

Even Gerry Ford, after deciding to deliver some criticisms in an interview, had the decency to agree to it only if the remarks were published posthumously (they were).

 

Carter should stick to what he's proven best at...being a bitter back-biting ex-president.

With Carter, Al Gore and Bill Clinton leading this movement, count my entire church out.

Since Souther Baptist local churches are autonomous, what good would it do to unite us?

Let Jimmy unite with the Mormons and leave us alone.

Jesus said that the world would then know that the Father sent him. I think that is a good thing.

"I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. John 17:20-21

As a Baptist, I do support autonomy of the local church as a political structure. But I do not understand the pride that Baptists have in not being able to get along to other Baptists, not to mention other Christian denominations.

 

Church of Christ believes that you can lose your salvation...and Catholics
believe you must be a member of their church to get to heaven. The Pope said it himself.

So Mr Edwards, we have a disagreement here, and I am an Independent Baptist, saved by grace, once saved, always saved.

Baptist-Baptists

True Baptists are not reformers, protestants, universalists, nor ecumenists. They have no denomination. They are strictly congregational. The pastors have only one vote. The congregation answers only to the Lord. Such groups may have other names. "Baptist" is the remains of a term of derision from the religious powers that be.

True Baptists are already united--each congregation is one Body in Christ. Is that prideful? More at humbling--God has preserved a remnant through much apostasy, even the present one.

What is in your wallet? Will it stand at the Bema Seat? Jimmy Carter will be there too. See I Cor. 3:1-15.

Thats true!! He will be there!!! And everything that does not belong to the Lord Jesus Christ will be burned away from him---a la fellowships with Mormonism, Islam, JW's, etc, etc

Knowing then the terror of the Lord---we persuade men everywhere to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ and worship and serve Him only!!!

 

Do we have a consistent argument?

Is Jimmy Carter fellowshipping with Mormons and other cults any different than Billy Graham fellowshipping with the Pope, the head of the world's oldest, largest cult?

God is able to call out His lost sheep--with us or without us. The field is ripe--the lost sheep are everywhere-- tangled in the tares. Who will help bring them in?

Do you honestly believe that is what Jesus is talking about in these verses. Read it again.

Soon after this, the "these" meaning the twelve are scattered and spread out. I don't even know if they were ever all in one "congregation" together.
