It occurred to me that I learned a lot of interesting things I never knew before, right here on the Baptist Board.
This week I've been taught that Mary is NOT the mother of God.
This week I've been taught that Jesus is not REALLY God, that there is a difference in Jesus of Nazareth and in God the Son.
For several weeks I've been taught that there is no need to try to spread the gospel message. It seems the Great Commission stop applying to people back around 75 A.D. when the last of the original disciples died. (Why they included it at all in the bible is beyond my understanding.)
And besides, personal committments to God are just silly rituals. They mean nothing. All of that was already taken care of before the earth was formed.
I've learned that its okay to ignore anything between Acts and Revelation because they aren't "god breathed" scripture.
I've learned that reading Harry Potter will turn your child in a hallucinating, drug using, wiccan, but NOT reading it will keep your child safe from such people.
I've learned that Dante's Inferno is dangerous and evil, but the Wizard of Oz, the Narnia Chronicles, and the Lord of the Rings are safe and good and Godly.
I've learned that any holiday meant to honor Christ is evil and should not be celebrated because Pagans have decided to enjoy it in secular ways as well, and it is therefore better not to Honor Christ with celebration, joy and thanksgiving (outside of your prayer meeting), lest some Pagan actually enjoy the same date.
Been an interesting and insightful week.
What did you learn this week?
Just some musing

I know that 100%% of the people on the Baptist Board do NOT believe ALL of those things. I know that about 95% of the people here don't believe any of them.
I worry though. I worry so very much that so many things we do NOT believe are argued so strongly (and so well) here. -
I will say that every group has its legalism and rules whether or not they are really legalism.
Many in Reformed circles argue about Christmas, exclusive Psalmody, Sabbath-keeping, and a whole host of other issues. Some in the Quaker tradition who have embraced voluntary poverty have a whole list of taboos involving simple living.
We're all people.

I believe that you have misread the intent of some of the posts.
For example, Murph had some valid concerns about a teacher potentially using Dante inappropriately to push an agenda.
You seemed to generalize that parents were generally stupid and should NOT be in charge of their childrens' educations.
I read and enjoy Harry Potter. But I do not think it is wrong for someone else to "judge" that is wrong. "Judge not" is often overemphasized at the expense of the same Bible saying "Judge with righteous judgment". No judgment means that all truth is relative. Our friends concerned about Harry Potter are expressing honest convictions. I am not bound to follow their convictions. I would join them, though, with many of the Harry Potter knockoffs, including Phillip Pullman. But other people are not bound by my convictions. But that also does not mean that I cannot express that some things are right and some things are wrong.

Push what agenda?
In the discussion I read about Dante it was a parent saying they objected to their child being asked to read Dante's Inferno for school, and stating that school's should only teach what parents want taught.
They didn't say anything about the teacher pushing an anti-Christian agenda.
And the person did not just say "it is wrong." They said that those who read Harry Potter are supporting immoral secularism. -
I've even wondered several times if I was really a Baptist after reading different threads here...and wondered if I really want to stay a Baptist.
Oh well what can you do? Everyone is so different. -
TS, this place is just like any other there are a lot of good folks. But there are also a few odd ones. Even if 99% are the good ones, it is the 1% that seem to get the attention.
I would say enjoy the fellowship and edification that it can bring at times and overlook the other stuff or you will spend a lot of time frustrated around these parts. -
I must honestly say that it's because of the bb that I've considered leaving the Baptist fellowship. I have a difficult time believing that the views of some are that commonplace in Baptist circles.

Johnv, Are you serious?
You seem to be among the most grounded Baptist on this Board! -
I have learned that if you have a sense of humor, you might be a liberal.
I have learned that if you do not believe it is wrong for a company to tell it's employees to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas, you are a liberal.
I've learned that if you use any bible version apart from the KJV, you are a neo-fundamentalist, and a liberal.
I've learned that if you question the possible meaning of baptism, you are a questionable Christian, a neo-fundamentalist, and a liberal.
I've learned that if you believe the meaning of wine in the bible is wine, and not juice, you are possibly busting open the gates of hell, you are a very questionable Christian, a neo-fundamentalist, and a liberal.
I've learned that if you vote for anyone but a Republican, you are from the pit of hell, definitely not a Christian, a neo-con, and a liberal.
I've learned that if I don't quit on a post like this at about this point, I'm probably going to get edited. Maybe even by a liberal!
Come on, smile, it was a friendly jab!
(and if you don't, you're a LIBERAL!) -
Gina- LOL

I do read other bible version's other than the KJV.
I don't always vote Republican.
So I must be a liberal!
Thanks Gina for the laugh, although somewhat true for this BB and it's members.
