BINGO! It most certainly has caught national attention and causing many to think and talk and write about these things. Martyrdom has a way of bringing that about.

It's the state wide governing body--the general assembly. The next regular session is January 2016 and it can only be called into special session by the governor. The governor has said he won't call a special session so Mrs. Davis will be the clerk at least four more month sunless she resigns or dies. Probably longer, because with the present mood in Kentucky the general assembly won't impeach.

I think you've got it, friend. What Mrs. Davis is doing is no different from what the civil rights advocates did in the 1960's. When we have enough people willing to go to jail over this, we will see changes.

The only way that it is possible for SSM to be illegal is for the Supreme Court to reverse their decision or that the Constitution be amended. That just isn't going to happen. Too much bad history in our past to have this overturned, i.e. mixed race marriage illegal, etc.

This can be done through the political process. FDR forced the court to reverse itself on various New Deal programs through his court packing scheme. Civil disobedience is also very effective. Just think what would happen if all 120 county clerks in Kentucky were willing to go to jail rather than sell a marriage license to a same sex couple. It would shut down weddings in Kentucky and some kind of relief that accommodates religious convictions would be forthcoming.

It is also the law of the land the our immigration laws be enforced. Yet we have President who refuses to and officials who create sanctuary cities that harbor criminals who are here illegally. We live in an upside down world where good is bad and bad is good.

The goal of Christians, in a culture of hypocrisy, isn't to add to that hypocrisy but to do their duty, live at peace, and do justly.

We can certainly acknowledge that there are clearly laws not being enforced under the current administration. This is wrong. Others, in contrast, appear to be over-enforced. Within it all, Christian ethics require that we obey the laws so long as they do not comprise a foundational Gospel issue and do not violate our personal being. Because Mrs Davis is an elected officer, her duty is to issue the licenses just like her deputy did today. If she cannot, and because this isn't a fundamental Gospel issue (no matter what certain fundamentalist leaders say,) her duty is to recuse herself from these duties or resign her office.

Martyrs aren't made by throwing themselves to the lions, and being placed in jail like this isn't martyrdom.

This ruling is immoral. It is as immoral as abortion or slavery. Being a law or a court ruling does not mean that we as Christians should follow it. Further Scalia and Roberts both said that the SC majority ruling was not based on law. This ruling should be opposed at every hand just as abortion or slavery should. It is a shame that so many Christians have been defeated by compromise.

Immoral or not, it is the law. Internment of the Japanese during WW II was immoral. Segregation was immoral. Citizens United was an immoral decision that Scalia, Roberts supported in the majority.

If a person has a job and they are asked to commit what they consider an immoral act or else, then they should resign.

Daniel should have resigned as a satrap? How about that Indian state trooper in Texas who refused to cut his hair? Or many sabbatarians who won't work on the 7th day?
