I remember when he first got his start in professional bb and signed that unheard of 90-something million dollar contract. I remember being stunned.

But he was also a dad whose daughter was also playing bb and he was a son and more.

We are not promised tomorrow, ya'll. Prayers for the family.

I am not much of a basketball fan but I am saddened by this news. You are right. We are not promised tomorrow. Kobe's death underscores the brevity of life and how close every person is to eternity.

Tragic, but how many "normal" people tragically died today? Any of them being discussed. Why are Americans obsessed with celebrity status?

    I don't even watch basketball.

I posted this for people to pray for his friends and family. I pray for the family of deceased - famous or infamous. Or known only to a few in my circle.

And I posted to remind us all - death is coming on very quiet feet for old and young.

For me it's more like I followed the guy on ESPN so long, you feel a sense of immediacy when that person dies. I can be told 100,000 normal people died today, but there is no emotional immediacy.

I also don't know if he was saved, that worsens things.

"Beyond basketball, Bryant was a husband and a father who in 2015 credited his Catholic faith with helping him move past a challenging period in his own life and the life of his family.

Bryant was raised in a Catholic family, and spent much of his childhood living in Italy. He married in 2001 in a Southern California parish." - From Catholic News Agency

There's hope here that we could see Kobe and his daughter in Heaven. Like anyone else, if their trust was in the Saviour and not in church doctrine, they will be there. The family will mourn the loss and needs prayer support.

This is so sad - he was one celebrity who set a good example to follow OFF the court as well as on it.

PRAYERFULLY REMEMBERING ALL THOSE WHO DIED IN THE KOBE BRYANT HELICOPTER ACCIDENT SUNDAY!
I want to take a moment to prayerfully reflect on the sudden, accidental death of retired NBA star Kobe Bryant. It is imperative as we pray and meditate on this tragedy, that we not forget that along with Kobe, eight other individuals passed from this life into eternity. Attached below are three press releases links concerning the crash and Kobe's death. I want to encourage ALL of you to take a few minutes and peruse these articles, and as you prayerfully reflect on this tragedy, that you not forget to include the families and loved ones of ALL nine individuals who tragically died when that helicopter crashed into the hillside in Calabasas California Sunday morning.

I agree, celebrity worship has gotten way out of hand and I don't understand it. Mr. Bryant was just another human being who lived his life and died like we all will. He is no more special than the average Joe who dies tragically in a car crash somewhere and leaves a family who will also morn his passing.

He gave his life to the Lord

"Kobe Bryant prayed at church hours before his death....'He just came and went quietly and prayed and gave his life to the Lord'...Father Steve Sallot said."

"Sallot is the priest at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Newport Beach, Calif....he saw Bryant just before the 7 a.m. Mass on Sunday. The two chatted for a couple minutes"

"Sallot said Bryant wasn’t able to stay for the service of the day but he had been in the prayer chapel."

"'We shook hands, I saw that he had blessed himself because there was holy water on his forehead. So I knew that he went in the chapel and prayed'"
