Typical story HERE.
Background: despite winning the general election here just a year ago the Dear Leader made a promise (effectively to his Chancellor (treasury chief) and long-standing rival for the Premiership, Gordon Brown) before the election that he wouldn't serve a full third term in office. That had the effect of turning him into something of a lame-duck Prime Minister.
IN the last few weeks, his position has worsened considerably:
1. His Home Secretary, Charles 'Dumbo' Clark, revealed that his dept had released convicted foreign criminals after they had served their sentences instead of deporting them. Dumbo has now been sacked.
2. The Deputy Prime Minister, John 'Two Jags' Prescott, admitted to a two -year affair with his diary secretary (I'll let you guess as to how the tabloids altered his nickname as a consequence)
3. His Health Secretary, Patricia Hewitt, has presided over the beginning of the end for that sacred cow of British politics, our National Health Service (see my earlier thread on the Welfare State and why it can't survive) - big-scale lay-offs for health service employees etc
4. New Labour's share of the vote in the local elections (almost as significant as your mid-term Congressionals) slumped to 27%; the Conservatives raced up to 40%
5. Blair's own party MPs are now ganging up on him.
