The government had nothing to do with the cultural evolution of the US. It was the people.

How many African Americans do you know who died trying to buy or sell their goods or services?

I have to admit I am troubled by your (Matt's - Ken posted between Matt's post and my reply) insistence that African Americans lacked the ability and will to achieve great progress on their own but insist that they had to sit in the lap of the government (made up of old white men, remember) in order to achieve anything.

That is true. The Democrats in the south threw up every roadblock imaginable against the civil rights movement. But ultimately it was the people themselves who brought about the change. "We Shall Overcome" was not only a theme, but a promise.

No, it is clearly the other way around. In order for him to do as you ask he would have to believe that a Christian should treat a person as a second-class citizen based on skin color. As nobody in this thread has advocated doing any such thing your question was clearly a diversion which you so eloquently accused others of doing in your earlier post.
