You half-quoted the question and didn't answer:
What does it mean to be "absent from the body" and when does it happen?
Lazarus sleeps

wopik believes:
-
We don't have a soul, we ARE A SOUL.
Things that creep are a living soul (Gen. 1:30, KJV, center margin).
The soul, the person, who sins shall die (Ez. 18:4,20).
In the OT, nephesh is translated into English as: soul, person, creature, beast, man -----
http://www.ecclesia.org/truth/nephesh.html
In the NT, psuche is translated into English as: soul, life, mind, heart, us, and you ----
http://www.ecclesia.org/truth/psuche.html
Psuche: soul, life, mind, heart, etc., is not something immortal in man.
Why can't the preachers tell us the TRUTH. </font>[/QUOTE]wopik
You did not respond to a single point I made or question I asked, just more of your heretical blather as above, so it seems that further discussion with you is useless. I would advise all those who try to reason with you to stop since it is just a waste of time. As Jesus Christ said to His disciples concerning those who rejected His Gospel [Matthew 13:14, 15]:
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. -
Gershom,
Yes. Lazarus "shall rise again" (Jn 11:23). Lazarus shall be in the first Resurrection: on such the SECOND DEATH has no power - Rev. 20:5-6.
Lazarus will NEVER SEE DEATH, when he is resurrected in the first resurrection.
1Cor.
15:6
After that, he [Jesus] was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
The BRETHREN are not in Heaven or alive; Paul says they are ASLEEP----waiting to be resurrected from the DEAD - 1Cor. 15:13. -
1Cor.
15:22
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
15:23
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
Jn
6:54
Anyone who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day, -
Gershom
Paul explains what he meant by being with Christ. He does not receive his reward immediately at death. But there is laid up a crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give him at that day. What day? At Christ's appearing----His second coming.
In Isaiah 40:10 we notice this same day mentioned: "Behold, the Lord God will come….behold, his reward is with him…." See also Revelation 22: 12.
To die is gain! In death, there is no knowledge of passing time (Eccl. 9: 5,6,10; Ps. 146: 4). THE NEXT MOMENT IS THE RESURRECTION! -
wopik, you believe that the soul "sleeps" along with the body. You didn't answer the question. If the soul "sleeps", what does it mean to be absent from the body?
I guess what I'll have to do is ask you one question at a time and not another until you answer the first one. So consider this and answer the question:
1. What does it mean to be absent from the body? -
Paul is talking about a bodily resurrection, same as the Lord's. -

On May 7, page 6, I quoted the following Scripture.
Ecclesiastes 12:1-7
1. Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
2. While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
3. In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
4. And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
5. Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
6. Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
7. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
You have as yet not explained your heresy of soul sleep in light of the teaching of this Scripture. -
OldRegular,
I already know what he's going to say. It sounds like he watches Doug Batchelor's show "Amazing Facts!". The teaching of soul sleep claims that your spirit is non other than your breath and that it returns to God. It really doesn't make sense. So they say when you are absent from the body is that your breath or spirit is taken up by God and will be restored to you at the ressurection of the body. Anyone can take a verse and twist it. It doesn't mean it will make sense.
In my opinion the immediate state of a person being present with God at death is a fundamental. I'm with your and Gersom. I do not believe in the false doctrine of soul sleep. I would not allow it to be taught in a church I pastored. -

Pure presupposition. The answer was given earlier in the self-same passage, wopik. "the time of my departure is at hand" details exactly when this "day" Paul refered to would be. Stop trying to read into it your 'version' of what the Bible says.
I am amazed that you are still allowed to post in the "Baptist Only" areas at all, wopik. You r statement clearly show that you are not Baptist in the least.
In Christ,

He'll hide for awhile, then after he thinks the coast is clear, and that we've somehow forgot that we're waiting for his answer to these accusations, he'll start another soul sleep thread.

Dan
12:2
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Secondly, Christians are rewarded when Christ comes back the second time:
Rev
22:12
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
Isa
40:10
Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. -
2Timothy 4:6-8 Paul wrote:
"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
We all receive the crown of righteousness TOGETHER, at Christ's coming----not when each individual dies. -
wopik,
If you are not a member of a Baptist church, why are you posting in the "Baptist Only" area, pushing your false doctrines?
Answer. -
Answer up, wopik. Have some integrity.
-
"Lazarus SLEEPS" -- Jesus (Jn 11:11)
"Lazarus is DEAD" -- Jesus (Jn 11:14)
Why teach contrary to the Saviour, Jesus Christ?
Jesus tells the TRUTH.
You must believe in the false immortal soul doctrine; therefore, you can't believe Jesus. -
There you have it, folks. After repeated attempts, wopik will not answer the question:
If you are not a member of a Baptist church, why are you posting in the "Baptist Only" area?
