Well now that we got through the courting thread ready for the next one?

I am at a very defining point in my life that will literally decide what direction I go in for the rest of my life. I have a little over a month to decide if I should go to school next semester.

Now I know your first response would be a "you better or i'll come after you myself", but listen why first.

As many of you know I am applying to Moody Bible Institute. If I get in I no longer need any classes at Community College. So it would really be better for me to work full time instead of taking classes until next fall so I would not have to take out loans.

However, IF I don't make it into Moody, than I would have wasted a semester that I could have been in school. Unfortunately I do not get to find out if I made it until after January 15, 2002.

Any advice??????????????????

Adam,

Education is never wasted, even if it dosn't apply to a degree. Comming out of collage with as little debt as possible is also important. How about a compromise. Could you work a little less than full time, and take a little less than a full class schedule. That way you wouldn't completly waste a semester, but you could still save some money. The money could be used weather you get into Moody or not, and you could pick up what ever credits you missed in summer if need be.

Adam,

Talk to an Admissions Counselor at Moody who is familiar with your case. Ask them how likely it is that you will be admitted. They can't give you a definite, but they can give you a pretty good idea.

I dislike their brand of legalism and do wish them more baptist than they are, but BJU is a top-quality school that actually STANDS for something. I would have been THRILLED for my own children to opt for it, and have had many teachers for my Christian Schools that have come from there with highest credentials.

Hope that you haven't bought into the liberal press' myths and prejudices.

As for Adam, if you sit out of school this semester to work in hopes of going to Moody, it is 4 months of your life. Should you have to make it up, it is only four months. When put into perspective, four months is not that big of a deal. I say make a decision and go for it. It is definitely far better not to go into debt if you have other options.

What school he picks isn't in question at the moment. (although I would pick MBBC ) As for education, no that is never wasted. You are wise to think of your finances, though. Do you realize that many couples are still paying off school loans ten years after they graduate. (In some cases- 2 loans )

Perhaps a very small loan isn't a problem, but when you get into thousands of dollars, that is no different than credit card debt. Interest rates are pretty high. It is better to be patient and take an extra year or two to finish school, and be debt free when you enter marriage. In the grand scheme of things, an extra year to finish is not that long, and is actually very common. Just a thought!

After thinking and praying about it I think the best route to take is to work about 50 hours a week and stay in school half-time.

I made a commitment to work at the Registrar's office at my school for at least a year and I'm not one to break a commitment. I will then get another job for 30 hours a week and take two classes.
