On his TV show, Touching Lives
today, Rev James Merritt said the average life span for a man in the US is 76, for a smoker, it is 56, and for a homosexual it is 46.
Yet, we are more concern about people to stop smoking.
He also said the church often looks the other way when a non-married couple attending church are living together, yet we will preach Hell fire and brimstone about
homosexuals.
Thoughts?

Another thing I've noticed (at least in Baptist churches) is the condemnation aimed at divorced people--especially men. It doesn't matter why the marriage failed; the man is always believed to be to blame and treated with scorn and condemnation.
Why would you look consider the link provided by Jerome (who is not the author of this thread) but not consider the links provided by Salty(who is the author of this thread)?
Was it easier to simply dismiss one but not the others?
And you do not believe that smoking or living a gay lifestyle reduces life expectancy?
"Christians are people who talk about the wonders of heaven but fight like hell to keep from going there." If one enjoys smoking and it allows you to go to Heaven and be with Jesus 10 years earlier . . . .
The stats deny the obvious. Do you believe that lesbians really have an average life span of 45 years? Utterly ridiculous.
That said, not believing some made up "statistics" doesn't mean that smoking does not shorten one's life. That is also well documented. However, it doesn't make the conjured up "stats" correct. Just because someone's fantasy supports your prejudices doesn't make them right either.
What about them. I have seen no evidence that they have shorter lifespans. Not saying it doesn't exist, but there is nothing I have seen that is more than speculation or undocumented conjecture. So are you saying God gives lesbians a pass, but hates gay males? Do you go to Westboro Baptist?
Such a mis-statement re: lesbians puts the entire source in question.
I did. Did you? A blog entry, a study of gays with AIDS (not gays in general), etc. Nothing that I would call scientific studies with control groups.
Shouldn't all you good Christians be very pleased and thank God that Lesbians have a short life span? And Darwinists, isn't that how evolution is supposed to work? By eliminating those unwilling to reproduce the next generation?
I watched my grandfather die from lung cancer caused by smoking.
It was not a pretty thing to watch him gasp and choke for air, all the while puffing on a cigarette.
As for homosexuals, I've read that they have a higher rate of suicide than heterosexual men, so maybe that's factored in on their shorter life span?
