I see where people are outraged by banks that have recieved bail out funds giving high salaries and bonuses to their CEO's.
They tried to limit CEO salaries to 500,000 dollars (which I thought was a good idea)
It came to me, though, why stop at the banks.
Why not limit the salaries of University Presidents and other officials (including coaches of the various sports) to $500,000?
Almost every University and college in America receives tax payer money to help fund them.
We the taxpayers deserve they are held accountable.
It seems the cost of education has gone up as rapidly as health insurance, maybe more so.
Why should the tax payers have to pay the high salaries of these Universities?
First, states have the right to determine the salaries of state institution employees since they control them in one form or another. Second, athletic departments are often funded entirely independent from the Universities (such is the case with Univ of Tenn). The athletic dept actually pays money to the University. Private foundations, donors, etc., fund these endeavors.
But financial interests, like banks, insurance companies, etc., are easy targets for people's hatred, especially those on the left. They're hated the way trial lawyers are hated by the right.
If these other organizations receive tens of billions of dollars from the bailout then they should be constrained as well.
Why should a CEO of a bank get a multi-million dollar bonus when their bank is going bankrupt unless it is bailed out by the government?
If they received tax payer money, they shouldn't.
If they didn't receive tax payer money, then it is none of the government's business how much they pay their people.
Universities, however, almost always receive tax payer money.
There are thousands of universities and colleges in the country receiving tens of billions of tax payer money every year.
We should demand that all employees be limited to $500K, even the coaches.
The only reason those coaches can make so much money is because our tax payer money pays others bills the university has.
Wrong.
The only reason the coaches can make so much money is that athletics generate an enormous amount of revenue, and boosters give money toward athletic foundations.
As a side note...anyone who thinks that athletic boosters would give the same amount of funds to academic endeavors is living in a dream world.
Just as soon as an incompetent Congress and other assorted pols start
limiting their own income from outside sources while in office , and especially after they leave office.
Would the Clintons be multi-millionaires with such a law?
No book deals.
Limited speech income.
Sound good? After all, they received government money as well.
