LK-99 superconductor research breakthrough could mark ‘new era for humankind’

A levitating train traveling at 14,000 mph would make quite a wreck if something went wrong.

"Imagine riding a levitating train at speeds of 14,000 miles per hour — cutting the trip from New York to Los Angeles to just 20 minutes.

A team of South Korean researchers say the science fiction fantasy is closer to reality than ever before with what they claim is a revolutionary breakthrough in superconductors.
...
I take [the announcement] with the proverbial grain of salt, though this particular grain seems closer to the size of a rock,” Jens Koch, a physics professor at Northwestern University, told The Daily Beast.

“This is an area of research where breakthrough claims have been made in the past and then had to be retracted because they did not hold up under scrutiny.”

Koch added: “Some of my colleagues have already voiced concerns about the data presented by the South Korean group.”

“I will believe it if or when I see verification.”

If, big IF, a super conductor at ambient temps is ever developed it will indeed open more doors than we can imagine right now….but we will imagine if/when it’s developed. IMO, it’ll change nearly everything.

Could you imagine the sonic boom as it went past you. It would probably level everything within a 1/4 mile Yikes!!!

peace to you

The front of the train would produce a sound wave that would lift the back of the train off the rails!

peace to you

To be pedantic, it would take 30 minutes or a bit more, assuming a one-gravity limit on acceleration/deceleration. At that force it would take 10-11 minutes just to reach 14k miles/hour.

I could see it working in underground vacuum tubes. No air, no shock waves.

peace to you
