The New York Central merged with the rival Pennsylvania RR - in 1968 and became known as the Penn Central. The PC was one of 20 railroads that help formed AMTRAK in 1970

IMO the creation of the steam engine/locomotive railroads in America was our number one propulsion into the Industrial Revolution which made America Great.
Our Historical Gem "The Iron Horse" fulfilled our Manifest Destiny.
Ya, I'm a White Supremacist.
Hmm, does my Ashkenazim Jewish blood negate my White Supremacy? -

Many railroad jobs were lost here in Indiana. People rejected passenger trains after the Korean War in favor of the automobile. Passenger trains were low in quality. The Pennsylvania Railroad in Indiana was closely tied to the automobile industry in Detroit in the freight lines. Now those right of ways have been lost so that the freight lines cannot be restored. What industry that is left in the rust belt often relies on trucking. The bankers saw that you could not make money in railroading and so the federal government began unsuccessfully to nationalize some passenger and freight service but the feds only lose money. It is the end of the line.

There was a Golden Valley line with a station at Peterchurch where we now live. It linked small villages. We still have the station platform & a ditch where the line ran.
An objection to the scheme reads:
It would have been convenient for our journey to church in Hay - 10 miles, 20 minutes - along a road which in places is wide enough to allow passing oncoming traffic without slowing down, while in other stretches there are passing places so narrow you have to stop to allow oncoming traffic - including arm tractors - to squeeze past.
We tried an alternative shorter route & found the whole 7 miles was too narrow to pass other vehicles. -

I thought maybe you brethren would enjoy this... In California in the city of Sacramento is the California State Railroad Museum... It's where some of the trains go when they are retired... Also some are here because of the Gold Rush way back when... Brother Glen:)
