as many of you know there are some songs that are not completely correct doctrinally (i.e. jesus is coming soon).
some of these doctrinal errors are so close that it is hard to notice them unless you closely scrutinize each and every word.
if you discover a song such as this what actions should be taken to correct the doctrinal error?

Welcome to the BB musicforyou. It would be great if you'd post in the "welcome" forum so that we may properly welcome you.
Who says Jesus isn't coming soon? I fail to see the error you've mentioned ... -
JESUS IS COMING SOON
R.E. Winsett
Troublesome times are here, filling men’s hearts with fear
Freedom we all hold dear, now is at stake.
Humbling yourself to God saves from the chastening rod
Seek the way pilgrims trod, Christians awake!
REFRAIN:
Jesus is coming soon, morning or night or noon
Many will meet their doom, trumpets will sound
All of the dead shall rise, righteous meet in the sky
Going where no one dies, heavenward bound
Troubles will soon be o’er, happy forevermore
When we meet on that shore, free from all care
Rising up in the sky, telling this world goodbye
Homeward we then will fly, glory to share!
I don't see it either... unless you're talking about the way of the pilgrims! ;) -
Nor, do I... Help us out a bit... OK?
Now, for me I have heartache with "God of Wonders" where it says God is far beyond the Galaxy...
He isn't far beyond the galaxy...
He's right here in my heart! -
Just a few more weary day and then I'll fly away.
Why do the days need to be weary? -
atestring... I think they're weary in comparison to the un-weary days of heaven, maybe? Just a guess.
-
OK...
With so much alikeness...
Do we become Baptacostal or Pentaaptist? :D -
Let me help musicforyou, the part of Jesus is coming soon that could be consider undoctrinal are 2 parts;
-all the dead shall rise
CORRECTION- all of the dead in Christ shall rise, not all the dead
-love of so many cold, losing homes of gold
CORRECTION- The homes of gold could be talking about people's wealth yet some may refer it to our mansion in Heaven and then that brings up the problem of eternal security in their hearts. So why not say crowns of gold instead of homes, because we can lose rewards in Heaven.
I also ask with musicforyou and wonder what you do when you find a song with a doctrinal error in it. By the way musicforyou I do not think you are picking on that song and I know where you are coming from. -
whle we are here we can be made to sit together in heavenly place in Christ Jesus. -
-
I'm with you atestring... I didn't write it...

Another song that makes no sense is "do Lord"
It ask do Lord o do you remember me?
Of course The Lord remembers us? -
No atestring, It's "Do Lord, O do remember me!" That's commonly sung wrong because people don't pay attention to the words.
-
and "O what a Sovior"
"...they searched thru heaven and found a Savior to save a poor lost soul like me..."
WHO searched thru heaven looking for a saviour?
(This is a soap box for me so I will try to control myself ) -
So the point is, we will not convince anyone of the existence and benevolence of a Supreme Being by saying that's how we know He's there. If that phrase means anything at all to the unbeliever, it does in fact mean the vaguely defined source of our thoughts on such matters; the songs and hymns might as well say "fancy" as having the same meaning. But "You ask me how I know He lives; He lives within my heart/fancy" is proof of nothing. So the Bible does speak poetically, which means it's not entirely literal... well, that's another direction. -

Do Lord, one of my favorite songs to sing as a child at church camp. According to www.negrospirituals.com this song is a Negro Spiritual. Maybe if I had been in the fields all day, year after year and sleeping on a dirt floor, never knowing if or when one of my children was going to be sold, I would probably be singing Do Lord, remember me, too!!!

You know a song does not have to be doctrinally perfect to be enjoyable. I heard Randy Travis sing “Pray for the Fish” on GMT the other day. That is a hilarious song. Of course I could get all pious and say it has incorrect doctrine in it regarding baptismal regeneration. Or I could just tap my foot and smile.

How about "Shall We Gather At The River"?
Especially after a sermon on throwing ones booze in the river! :D
I understand the the poetic and artistic liberty used in "God of Wonders"...
It just struck me wrong when I first heard it...
It is a nice song even if it struck me wrong...
As for the compliants preach has against "Jesus is Coming Soon"
In the first case (Dead In Christ shall rise) in order to include "perfect" doctrine you'd have to destroy the singability of the song...
In the second case the writers were basically Armenian in their belief system so the ability to lose ones Golden Home by dropping out of the race is very real to them.
Even if a good Calvinist disagrees...
In the first case someone can add a bass accent, "Dead in Christ Shall Rise"...
(Of course at some point the dead without Christ will also be resurrected for Judgement. So, depending upon scope of time...)
In the second case, I'd have to look at it and see how to mitigate that line for all you Calvinists....
