Madly in Love with You

Our worship leader leads us with this song quite often. I find it lacks any spiritual content nor does it cause me to worship God. Does anyone have the same or differing opinions?

 

I am one who is open to modern songs in worship, but I do have a problem at times when God is refered to as a lover or a husband. Maybe its just me.

 

I am not familiar with this title, could you post the lyrics?

Also, if you are not comfortable with it, have you talked to the worship leader to get his/her opinion on it and why it is used in worship?

Another verse replaces "dance" with the word "sing". As you can see, it is pretty much void of Scriptural truth.

 

I have to agree, I don't really see the Christianity in this song. But that's just me.

He is not open to suggestions much. He feels he is the expert when it comes to the music he chooses for worship. I am praying about speaking to him.

I agree as well.

This points up the fact that drums are NOT the problem with modern music.
I have no problem with doing a song that is contemporary.
All songs were at one time anyway.

But consider this and see if you think it makes sense:

Don't we see way too much weakening of God and changing into a likeness of corruptible Man?

This isn't a simple matter taste.
Whether you have guitars or organs in your church is a matter of taste.

Changing God into a likeness of corruptible man like this song does is blasphemous.

 

I don't find anything wrong with the lyrics. I may make up my own tune and go sing it to my wife right now.

 

It's not just you. I detest the "Jesus is my boyfriend" style songs.

 

Come on people, be nice, the song's writer probably has a very nice cat.... :laugh:

LOL, after reading the words, I copied and pasted it into a text document and had her read it.
She didn't think it was bad until I told her people sang it in Church!

 

When songs are written, they reflect what the author thinks and perceives of the subject he is writing about.

In this case, this man shows an extremely low and un-glorified view of who God is.
The lyrics are simply the result of the authors view of a God made like unto corruptible man.

 

Hummmm... it sounds like another song that the writer didn't clarify.
ie
I am madly in love with Jesus (as most Christians should be)
"What we do in here we will do out there," Should be... "What we "hear" in church we should "do" outside. (Be doers of the word)

as far as dancing and singing part... David danced and sang. :smilewinkgrin: But that wasn't explained in the song either. Sad when you got to sing watered down songs. :( Copy and paste the replys here and put it where the music leader can see it. :thumbs:

To me it seems a bit twisted to say one is "IN love" with Jesus. Love him, yes. Definitely. IN love with him? Seems a bit over the top.

 

I agree. I think that more often than not "In love with" has a sexual connotation.

The thing that disturbs me most about this kind of song is that it reminds me of some of the mystical....er...."excesses" of church history.

I don't like the song either, mostly for the reasons that have been listed here. It is not a song I could use to teach an attirbute of God, nor is it a song that I could sing in worship and mean it. It is not interesting musically, and I prefer songs that don't repeat the same line 19 times.

It's ok to say "I love You" to God. Saying it over and over implies that maybe we're not sure why we love Him?
