Yes, apparently David Beckham has signed for $250000000. He wants to take soccer in the US to 'another level', and doubtless his {Edited per BB rules} wife wants to take Hollywood shopping to 'another level'. Given that Becks' soccer star is hardly in the ascendant anymore (witness his lacklustre performance in the World Cup last year), will LA Galaxy regret this extremely expensive acquisition?

No Matt, the Yanks will be enamoured with Posh and Becks. It will give a financial pay-off before the deep pockets run dry. After the profit has been realised they will be cast aside for the next set of stars.
BTW. why don't you tell us how you really feel about this charming young couple ;)? -
Who cares? It's soccer...

But more seriously, is anyone worth $1000000 a week?
-
The football portion of the contract is 5 years 51 million the rest is made up in various endorsements.
And yes someone is worth that much money, someone paid it didn't they?!! -

Posh used to be one of the "Spice Girls" -
Oh, ok, I misunderstood. Since we're not talking soccer, or football, if you prefer, then yes, I agree.

Football will be sidelight - of that I am almost certain -
I still think it's soccer who cares? They tried this with Pele and the NY Cosmos... and after 18 months everyone in the US went back to the real football. -
Looks like Tom Cruz is all over it, he may have new converts to the church of the weird.

it was back in the 70's... so it was probably before you were born ..
and Pele was simply the best soccer player ever, anywhere -
I just caught on who Pele is.
I've been pronouncing it Peal, but it's supposed to be like Paylay, right?
I've heard of him.
I've also heard of Beckham. Wasn't there a movie with his name in it?
A soccer player making $51 million??? He's way overpriced.
I just don't see how his owners are going to make their money back here in the U.S.
I know that Houston used to have a soccer team, but then one day they just kind of disappeared...and no one really noticed. -
Didn't our ancestors fight a revolution so we wouldn't have to watch soccer?
