Luckily the Democrats won't have absolute free run of the Senate. I like the idea of check and balance between the parties. This article says McCain can play a key role as mediator between the parties. What are your thoughts? Can this be effective?

McCain is not a conservative.
If he had been, he might have beaten the redistributor. -
You like the idea of check and balance between the parties - but apparently not enough to vote for it.
A more effective check would have been to vote for the other party to hold the office of President.
I hope that the "moderates" don't come crying when the liberal democrats use their unchecked power to punish and abuse anyone but their political base.
