Wow, and to think I just defended you on another thread. If you don't want other to say unchristian things to you, you need to first stop saying things like this to others. It's one thing to disagree, but to accuse a brother of "perverting the bible" is totally uncalled for. You should apologize immediately.

    Paul Wassona...

    You said...

    Expected????

    :BangHead:

So you wont do it because you arent commanded to in the scriptures?

Where in the scriptures are you commanded to fix a cup of coffee in the morning or to eat a bowl of cereal? Where are you commanded to read the morning newpaper or get the sports scores on TV?

Where are we commanded in the scriptures to have "pews" in church or a "last weeks offering" sign on the wall?

Never, but we do those things.

We do all those things because we are free to, and we want to.

    Same with a prayer circle.

Its obvious that you have a problem taking the hand of a brother of yours while praying to your Father. Fine.

But please dont bring up the issue of a scriptural mandate.

Let me see, Tim goes off in a tizzie calling people "sissies" and then explains he was "being extreme". I point out his knack and it is called an attack. Extremism is perversion of a subject, of course yoy can't tell people that who are straining at everything somebody says to turn it into something else and make it a matter to report. Tim, you gave a very misleading report about Jesus in an extreme fasion. I apologise for not knowing this was normal for you to "make a point". Others take a spiritual practice and compare it to normal daily activities. Sorry, you all, but there is no comparison there. God bless and go to all the extremes you wish, but men holding hands is effeminant. Give me a bible example of men holding hands to pray. Oh, I forgot, that doesn't you for your arguement's sake

    What about a holy kiss?

Ro*16:16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.
1Co*16:20 All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.
2Co*13:12 Greet one another with an holy kiss.
1Th*5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

I would like to do a holy kiss during prayer. That would be better than holding hands.

Paul, I am not going to mock you here. I believe that people should handle touching each other as they feel comfortable.

But where is the biblical mandate that men holding hands is effeminate? There is a Bible mandate for men greeting each other with a holy kiss. The Apostle Paul gave that mandate four times.

    .............................................................................................
    Romans 16:16
Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

    1 Corinthians 16:20
All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.

    2 Corinthians 13:12
Greet one another with an holy kiss.

    1 Thessalonians 5:26
Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
    ..............................................................................................

Would you say that Paul was advocating that men show effeminate behavior? No. He was encouraging Christians treating each other as if they genuinely cared about each other. And I understand that this was a cultural norm of the day and that today shaking hands and/or slapping an arm around someone is the equivalent.

I'm curious. What is your opinion of a man who is praying at the altar during the invitation and another man can tell that he is crying over some struggle and the other man comes down and kneels beside him and puts his arm around him? Is that effeminate to you? I just asking. I don't want to fight about this - it's Valentine's Day for goodness sake. :flower:

Actually, I think in the better realm of things, men holding hands is kind of masculine. In fact, it is the S word.

So first we have a bunch of threads about women and now we're questioning mens manliness or lack thereof? EEK!

My husband is both masculine and sensitive (as in, doesn't mind hugging a brother and telling him how much he appreciates him) and he would not enjoy a circle of people holding hands to pray. It's odd, imnsho.

The rest is personality. Some men don't mind hugging. Some do. Neither one is wrong, again imnsho.

As a woman, I think we should guard against excessive hugging. Men hugging women; women hugging men. We should be careful. There have been times where I have received a nice hug from a brother (usually one of those from a distance hugs with the shaking of hands in between), but I have also been the recipient of an unwanted hug from a man who tended to follow women around and shake their hands too long, hug too long, etc. I avoided him and then was told I was stuck up.

And don't get me started on men thinking it's okay to pat a pregnant woman's belly. Um, excuse me, sir, but this is not appropriate.

Stepping off my soap box now...

A holy kiss is a salutation and it's not an intimate kiss or showing affection. Holding hands is a more intimate type of action. I don't have a "problem with my manhood" for not wanting to hold another man's hand. The problem might be his and I rather not find out it is his "problem".

Often times, when one is overly pre-occupied with an issue, it is because one has issues in that particular area.

Like your preoccupation with trying to suggest anyone else has "issues"? Why is it you can't add anything to this thread? It is a fact that holding another's hand is an act which effects the heart rate. That shows it distracts one more, so that his concentration is taken away and towards that person holding his hand. In praying, I'm talking to God and he to me. Why should I want to be distracted and risk distracting some one else?

PW...So you are also then opposed to laying on of hands, because of the distraction and physiological affect?
