Mexican Hopefuls Eye Voters in L.A.

Before we get wrapped around the wheel on this one, remember how many expatriate (living overseas) U.S. citizens vote in our elections. Enough so that the Democratic Party has a delegation at its national convention representing overseas Democrats. Personally, I think Mexico City is going to regret this move. Many of the voters north of the Rio Bravo are too Americanized to stand for businees as usual in the Federal District. The bums stand a good chance of being voted out.

Nope its a free registration. But who wants to give the LA Times any info.

The short short version is in the last year the Mexican government passed a law allowing its overseas citizens to vote in Federal elections. This will be the first election under the new law. All parties look to gain voters from north of the Rio Bravo. I don't know who will gain any votes but there are enough expatriate Mexican citizens here to make it a race. Just think of what a US presidential candidate would do if the same percentage of the US vote lived in Canada and there was no Electoral College to spread the vote among the States. They'd be kissing babies from Prince Rupert to Gander.
