Mexico has one of the top super computers ('KanBalam') in the world.
Any ideas of what they will do with it?

The dean of the UNAM, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, launched the super computer known by the name KanBalam, the most powerful computer in Mexico and all of Latin America, which required an investment of 3 million dollars. This computer is seven thousand times more powerful than the first supercomputer at the UNAM which dates back to 1991 and 70 times more powerful than AlphaServer SC45, acquired by the UNAM in 2003.

Don't think the most powerful computer in the world could be built for three million dollars.

Is "El ordenador será utilizado especialmente para estudios de Astrofísica, Física de Partículas, Química Cuántica, Ingeniería Sísmica, Geología, Ciencias Biológicas, Meteorología y estudios de contaminación." really that hard to figure out? Química Cuántica = Quantum Chemistry - that was the only difficult one (for me).

I think that was the difficult one . . . I believe that "Química Cuántica " is closer to applied (quantified) chemistry than it is to quantum (theoretical) chemistry.
IMHO.
