The last few times I start doing something in Microsoft Word, a Runtime error message pops up and it closes. I have restarted and shut down the computer and it still happens.
Any help?

If you have windows xp, use system restore and go back to a restore point when you know you had no problems. If that does not work uninstall Word and reinstall or just use the repair option. If that fails go to www.openoffice.org and download a full office suite fully compatable with Windows files for free.

What does the error say?

In Word, under the Help menu (at least in my Microsoft Word 2000 - 9.0.6926 SP3), there is a selection for Detect and Repair. Perhaps that will help.

While on the subject of Word, I just discovered while searching for a win ce grammar checker, that the checker in Word is near worthless.
I ran across paragraphs that were near unreadable that make it through Word without a problem. The same sites suggest using Word Perfect 12 since its checker is much more accurate. -
I have never wasted much time on MS Word. I use Word Perfect 11 all the time.
The only time I use MS Word is when I have trouble copying a picture and it will not paste to Word Perfect. So then I copy it to MS Word and then copy and paste from MS Word to Word Perfect. -
thanks all, I think I have the problem solved.

The answer is Star Office
-
Actually, the answer is OpenOffice - last I knew Star Office was the 75$ version of the free Open Office

Isn't it only 75 bucks if you want to buy the media and manuals with it, I think you can download it cheaper or free. If not, Star Office 8 will probably be that way, since Sun's software offerings will soon all be freely available with the customer only paying for support if they want /need it. It will probably still cost something to go to the store and buy the media.

Staroffice is free if your crafty enough!
Download Sun's Java Desktop for the free trial and you can glean Star Office from it. No license required. I have an old 5.1 version on disc from the good old days when it was free
Besides the new Open Office Beta 2 is perfect.

Almost every Linux distro now comes with OpenOffice, plus the Windows version is very nice also. I have switched over from Microsoft and am very happy.

I know you may already have it fixed, but many times Word will crash if your printer driver has a compatibility problem with the file your opening in Word... Alot of times you can check this by changing your default printer to another printer and seeing if it still crashes.. if not, probably a printer driver issue....
hope that helps...

PJ </font>[/QUOTE]Haven't used Word of Excel in about a month. No probs of any kind with OpenOffice. Their Beta 2.0 has a glitch in the UK spell check so I am waiting till that is fixed and using the stable version.
