According to CNN (for what it's worth) the investigation is being conducted by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Once that work is complete, which the CNN article says might take 2-3 months, it will be up to the Hennepin County Attorney, not a grand jury, to decide whether to press charges.

BCA: Officer heard loud noise before partner shot Justine Damond

Assuming news coverage is somewhat accurate, you can expect more of this if people continue to assassinate police officers. Scared police officers often make poor decisions. I am guessing officer thought he was being ambushed.
-
Maybe so, but reports say his partner was talking with the woman when it happened. Weird situation.
-
Hmm, just wondering" What if it was a white officer gunning down a Muslim woman?
HankD -
And? Would it have been better or worse? What if it were a female Hispanic officer shooting a Chinese 10-year-old? What if it were a Vietnamese-American officer who shot a Jehovah's Witness? Those who don't like politicization of some things are OK if it's other things?

It just sounds like a sad accident. He will likely need therapy for a long time and will probably never fire a weapon again. -

If it was a white officer gunning down a Muslim woman it probably would have been made into a global hate crime by our communist news media resulting in Muslim people rioting around the world.

circumstances, he said he'd personally see to it that it would have ended very badly
for the officer. I have an idea what he meant. I didn't ask, and he didn't elaborate. We
just parted ways. That was that.
Makes me wonder just how much more the public can take before law enforcement starts
losing the respect and support they've worked hard for. -

There would be demands for federal intervention.
There would be marches, including quite a few local sellouts from American universities marching
alongside their "islamic brethern" in solidarity against white bigotry and all that nonsense. And
our local/national media would be right there granting a full, in-your-face interview denouncing
American hatred for Muslims, most notably against President Trump for "promoting islamophobia."
We would have Muslim's calling for "more education and openness and acceptance of Islam",
plus we would have more invitations from them to visit your local mosque and find out just
how peaceful and tolerant they are toward Christians, Jews and others.
We would see nothing but smiles, smiles, and more smiles from Muslin clerics, in another vain
attempt to persuade us into developing a guilty conscience. More psych-warfare to win the
hearts and minds of infidels.....excuse me: to win the hearts and minds of idiots. -
Law enforcement is hated because our society has an in general rebellion against all authority. -
Followed then by police officer assassinations.
Therefore the the fake news media corporations, their journalists and the associated demonstrators ALL have blood on their hands.

getting saved in 1973. I got to know an Internal Affairs detective back in the late 70s,
early 80's. I knew there were bad cops out there. I just never came across any, at least,
not during a confrontation with one. But I knew that cops are hardly anything like the fictional
Sgt. Joe Friday, or the fictional Officer Malloy and Officer Reed of "Adam-12". We wished that
were the case, even today, but it's not.
Even today, I still see a much more clearly defined serious defect in judgement among some cops. -
They are just people. Reciently we saw an officer shoot a tracher in a traffic stop. The teacher said I have a weapon, was reaching into his pocket getting the required ID. The officer panicked and emptied his gun into the man in front spouse and a child. Pure fear and lives are ruined. Does anyone think this man will ever sleep again. Pray for our long blue line. -
When does news become non-news? Just watch the networks. Did you ever dream this would happen here? It would help if everyone read Mao's selected works and see how he organized
China. I am fearful for the direction our nation is traveling.
