It is complicated if the sins are committed online, say, on a message board. You really do not know the person. It is difficult to judge motives. Because of privacy issues you cannot see them eye-to-eye. The best you can do is try to resolve the issue as biblically as you can. If that proves impossible you need to move on. In person is different, especially if it is within a local church setting where church discipline is practiced.
Yes...it is complicated with the new technology.
For example I never used the block this person, or follow this person feature.
From what I understand I would have to indicate I want to block a person, or If I wanted to follow a person, likewise...I would have to purpose to do so I think. Is that correct?
My settings would not change by themselves would they Reformed?
So if
I get a
notification that a person if following my page, that means they would have to know I was on a message board, and then adjust settings to follow my posts, is that correct?
I think that there are several things we can consider. But let’s take the extreme as an example.
When I worked at WRAMC we had several delusional patients. One thing I always kept in mind is that we can do nothing about the delusional except reinforce truth. We can say, for example, “Tony, I know that you believe that you are a tiger but you are a boy” and leave it at that (you cannot reason delusional people out of a delusion).
How does this translate?
When people say things that are not true we deal with what was said and not the person.
Why?
There are several possibilities. The person may be lying, misinformed, a mistake in judgment, have a mental deficiency, misinterpreting a situation, or holding a misunderstanding. OR perhaps the error belongs to us and we do not realize it.
And this applies to other situations as well.
Often people are guilty of making false accusations by assuming what they cannot know (by addressing the person rather than what was said).
We cannot know what another person understands or feels. We cannot know for certainty another person’s intentions. But we can deal with what is said. And the best way to do this is to ask questions rather than make assumptions and accusations.
Ask questions, seek clarification, make conclusions, check your conclusions.....but always avoid making assumptions.
Years ago as a Tapatalk user...and it was used error...when someone would PM me , I would hit "follow".
For some reason I though it meant follow the conversation, but it followed the users post on any part of the board. And if they used tapatalk as well , I started getting their posts
from all the boards they used.
I then started unfollowing everyone once I discovered what I did.
So #1 is certainly a possibility. Not sure exactly what you are talking about l, so I may be way off.
That makes sense!!!
I was wondering what app would let someone know they had picked up a tail.
I kept imagining google maps saying "turn left, you are being followed". :Laugh
I use the feature on another forum to limit those who can engage me via pm (only those who I "follow" can pm me).
Those on my "follow" list are people I am willing to talk to privately (not that I'm tracking their conversations). Those not on the list are just little people...let 'em eat cake :D .
Most people that use Tapatalk have a tagline on the bottom of their posts that indicate they are using the app, unless they change their signature to omit it. Right now I am on my laptop. I am going to make another post in a few minutes from my mobile device. You will be able to tell the post was made via TapaTalk.
I noticed people using the app. I did not know that it allowed people to follow member's posts (I take it you get a list of their posts?).
That'd come in handy if you were engaging several people over different threads.
Is this the advantage over just using the web (you don't have to enter each thread)?
Notice that I have five followers. I do not follow anyone, nor do I have PMs turned on. However, I cannot stop individuals from following me unless I block them. I cannot see who is following me on the app. I have to view my profile on the full website to see that.
At NSA one guy told me he would never allow an alexa or google devise in his home because people can use them without him knowing. Another guy said he does not care if people spy on him as long as he can tell alexa to turn on the lights. I’m pretty much in that last category. :)
