By request of the administrator I'm starting a new thread to continue with the conversation of the thread Christian rock is evil.
Aaron
I see you are trying to relate the verse of having a proud look to music, but I can also see there really is not relation to either subject. I don't know that there is an actual written description of a "proud look" but we know that it is speaking of being haughty or puffed up. I don't know how you can relate that to any style of music.

A thought is that before the look, ther is attitude. So when does it become sin? With the look or the attitude?
-
When it becomes sin is when the pride begins in the heart and you will soon start to show the pride more not just in the face but in your actions.
From the last thread, I can't see this relating to music but ok.
karen -
I'm with you Karen on this relating to music.
And the sin -
Does it seem to anyone else that to argue whether or not someones facial expression indicates the evilness of Christian music is just a little bit legalistic? (serious question)
UNP, Adam -
actually yes, I personally don't see the point but who knows.
-
I think I am beginning to understand how Jesus felt when he said, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees," and the Disciples thought it was because they had no bread
-
anyone else think it's time for a new subject on music? time to move on I do believe.

Yep, I think so. -
O.K...on my break just looking around. I haven't looked much at toe other post you moved from, but somethimg said here caught my eye. About attitude. would you agree that someones attitude comes across in their music, be it christian or secular.
-
Preacher, I agree on attitude. But someone is disagreeing with CCM just becaue they might have the wrong look on their face. Sounds silly, but true. You can have a look of pride and sing anyother christian music too.
-
if your talking about having a bad attitude while singing the music, yeah that could happen but to just have a bad look on your face I don't really think has much to do with it except may make others think your peeved. That's not just in music, goodness, anyone can display this look while ministering.
karen -
Anyone who's ever seen Roger Daltry sing knows that a singer can convey an attitude through a facial expression.
Daltry and Pat Boone have both sung "Baba O'Reilly".
Same song, completely different attitudes. -

*sigh*
Okay. One more time.
The argument I refuted with the proud look verse was an argument commonly floated by CCM fans, to wit: "If the issue [of music] was so important to God, then there would be more about it in the Bible."
My response: "We know that God hates a proud look, but where is the description of a proud look in the Bible?"
That's all.
I was not in any way referring to the facial expressions of the performers.
Sheesh! -
Aaron ahh I get your point now, but you may want to rethink the proud look thing. The bible doesn't (that I know of) come out and say the expression of a proud face is such and such but it does expound a bit in other areas as in describing the religious leader praying and the tax collector praying, it shows kind of what that proud look is without describing it.

Exactly!!
Attitude = character, and the qualifications of a minister are not his education, but his character. Though character is a heart issue, we, the body of believers, can see a man's character.
It is the same with music. The character of a certain style is the issue, and the moods or attitudes fostered by certain styles are easily seen. -

Afraid I don't understand this.
By the look on the face of the musician? While sing/playing?
Those listening(look on their face)?
See having difficultie on this one. -
I don't see a problem with the character of ccm. I don't see a problem with the character of christian rock or even if it were no words at all, I don't see evil in the character of the music.

So then, you would say that Randy Stonehill's "Fire" is on the same par with Marilyn Manson's "Anti-Christ Superstar"?
