Whereas yours would paint God as a genocidal monster. Thanks but no!

You do not get it. The Old Testament is literal in its account of what God did. You are the one saying He is "a genocidal monster."

If you believe that God really ordered that then you do believe He ordered genocide. Sorry, but you don't get to wriggle out of it by saying "Oh but He can get away with it because He's God so that's alright then" or some other bovine ordure. God cannot do something which is against His Nature and the own laws He sets

You probably wrote off the bloodbath that will occur when Christ returns, as well.

    I am an angry God.
    I am a vengeful God.
    I am a jealous God.
    I am a righteous God.

You’ve got no standing. God himself claims he has a murderous temper.

Why do you have a problem with this ?

And “genocidal maniac” is your own term.

We call him what he calls him self.

And we believe billions will suffer in eternal torment as punishment for failing him.

Did God order genocide or not, in your opinion, in I Sam 15?

Anthropomorphic imagery based on the revelation available to the recipients at the time

Because a being Who is perfect Love doesn't have a murderous temper; it's more anthropomorphism etc.

'Pears to me that the Brits have a new version of scripture -- from KJV to QEV. (???)
Only way I can explain the total disregard for what's WRITTEN to that which is "more palatable" to one's taste!!:(

Not gonna play. God ordered the death of everything living. Genocide is a human term I will not apply to him.

It's the only way to take it seriously...and it's nothing new as Rob noted a couple of pages back: the allegorical and anagogical methods of reading Scripure date back to the early Christians. It's the fundamentalist modernist literalism at every turn that's the innovative departure

You won't play because we're coming painfully close to the nub of it now. What else would you describe the death of every man, woman and child in a people group?
