Summary: A New York Times article detailed the connection between numerous media military analysts and the Pentagon and defense industries, reporting that "the Bush administration has used its control over access and information in an effort to transform" media military analysts "into a kind of media Trojan horse -- an instrument intended to shape terrorism coverage from inside the major TV and radio networks." A Media Matters review found that since January 1, 2002, the analysts named in the Times article -- many identified as having ties to the defense industry -- collectively appeared or were quoted as experts more than 4,500 times on ABC, ABC News Now, CBS, CBS Radio Network, NBC, CNN, CNN Headline News, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, and NPR.

President Eisenhower warned our nation about such as this. We should have listened to him. He was in a position to know about stuff like this.
-
Yup, and what did we do? We ignored him.

Or maybe we should form our opinions on the war by relying on those 'experts' at Media Matters (an organization founded by the likes of Hillary Clinton & George Soros) or anonymous AP stringers who just happen to know where the next assassination or roadside bombing is going to occur, and are there with camera at the ready. -

NS,
I'd prefer the state and media just be honest with us. What we have now is what my mother used to refer to as "one'll lie and the other'll stick to it".
The state got caught red handed manipulating us doesn't matter if it used people knowledgable in military affairs or not. They were there to sell us military hardware and targets to use it on. We bought it. We and our grandchildren will be paying for this "cakewalk" a long long time.
The state has been caught manipulating our emotions through fear and racism spinning in the leftie vs rightie arguement now only serves to insulate the state from the punishment it deserves.
I propose we all learn or re-learn what the people of the 1700's knew before us. Government is an assembly of frail and easily corruptable human beings.
This fear is due to the ever-present, never-changing weaknesses of human nature in government which are conducive to "love of power and proneness to abuse it," as Washington's Farewell Address warned
<snip>
Americans of the period 1776-1787 firmly believed in the soundness of the accepted maxim that "government is like a fire: a dangerous servant and a fearful master;" that, to be useful, it must be strictly controlled for safety against its getting out of hand and doing great harm. Through the generations, the people have considered that this maxim expresses one of history's most profoundly important lessons for Free Man. This maxim is based upon the knowledge that, in last analysis, government is force and must be feared and controlled accordingly. The great fear in 1787-1788 of the new, central government under the proposed Constitution was evidenced by the fact that the State Ratifying Conventions proposed scores of amendments, designed chiefly to keep under more rigid control what they considered to be this potential monster of power so dangerous to their liberties: the central, or Federal, government.

We don't work hard enough at putting solid Christians - true followers of Christ - into office and we don't work hard enough at limiting their work to the absolute minimum. -

Someone has to warn people of the folly of socialism. Though sometimes I wish you'd get more into the actual root of the problem rather than just the obvious side effects caused by it. -
This is nothing new. Franklin Roosevelt gave access to friendly news outlets, and denied hostile ones. So did Lincoln. WT Sherman threatened to hang some reporters who were putting out negative stories of his campaigns. Eisenhower's staff kept track of what the different journalists wrote, and Ike denied access based on that, when he could. I personally am not much surprised that the same happens today.
But yes, it is an example of information warfare, and they were caught doing it.
-
Democratic members invited two of them to testify before the House and Senate Armed Services Committees because they are known to be opponents of the war, and could be counted on to give the Administration a black eye.
So if this is an example of Pentagon manipulation, they have surely fouled it up royally.
-
From the sounds of it you're okay with being manipulated. I'm not. And I really don't care how many precedents have been set before this. Is honest government really so much to ask for?

Spinning liberals into the equation doesn't automatically excuse the "other side" NS. I know that mainstream consensus demands "good citizens" believe this these days but as always it insulates the state from the punishment it deserves when it breaks the "trust". And another thing...we can't trust the mainstream media to bring us the truth either. It was caught red handed faking pictures of Iraqi's tearing down Saddam's statue...in this case the media was doing the pentagon's propaganda work for it. This is just one other instance of collusion between the state and media.
So we're back to "one'll lie and the other'll stick to it." That's the situation we have now. A state that openly uses propaganda on U.S. citizens to "create consent" and a media that goes along with it. The noble lie factor once again. Myself, I'm tired of the lies from the state and the media.
