PHE data suggests that being double vaccinated reduces the risk of being hospitalized with the now-dominant delta variant by around 96%. Even conservatively assuming the vaccines are no more effective at preventing death than hospitalization (actually they are likely to be more effective at preventing death) this means the risk of death for double vaccinated people has been cut to less than one-twentieth of the value for unvaccinated people with the same underlying risk profile.
No, it makes sence.
If 100% of the people were vaccinated with a vaccine that is 94% effective then 100% of the ones with the disease being vaccinated would not prove the vaccine fails.
The mortality rate per population decreases while the mortality rate per vaccinated population rises.
This proves the vaccine works.
Those stats include the 600,000 that died prior to the vaccine being available. The overwhelming majority, more than 90%, were elderly with pre-existing conditions that had a 5% fatality rate. None were vaccinated.
The virus is serious, especially for the elderly with pre-existing conditions. Healthy, young people do not have a 3% fatality rate. Children under 18 have almost no risk.
The virus and the vaccine have been politicized from the beginning and continues to be so.
There is no consideration for those tens of millions that have recovered from covid and have, according by to the Israel study, 27 times better immunity than vaccines.
I agree.
They are total rates (including prior to the vaccines).
Last I checked the percentages of survival were about 98% unvaccinated and 99. something vaccinated (vaccinated then had a 15x great survival rate).
Regardless, chances are you'd survive covid either way.
Yes, it is serious.
I agree.
We lost 2 from covid this weekend (at work).
No. I never said they were.
They are 67.1% vaccinated.
I'm sure there is also a high covid recovery rate also.
Point being as vaccines increase so will vacvinated covid cases.
The vacvine is not 100% effective (they primarily use the Oxford vacvine....I do not know those stats).
No kidding…just this weekend I met a young man at the Target store… he got the COVID shot and is now having heart problems. There is crap in those shots that’s bad for you and now they want to vaccinate the kids!
I should include more than what is presented here, Brother.
We need to know the percentages we are looking at.
We can say there is about a 1 to 2% chance of dying from covid but this really depends on other factors.
Age and health often (not always) play a role.
The vaccinated are 11 to 15 times less likely to die (average) but again this depends on other factors.
Either way we are talking about a very low chance.
There is also a .026% chance of severe adverse effects from the three vaccines used in the US.
So all of this arguing and speculation is over issues that chances are will not occur.
Chances are you will not fie of covid, chances are you will have no serious side-effects from any of the 3 vaccines.
The concern is keeping the numbers low, and remembering that even 1 in 100 is a lot of lives.
My parents are pretty well-connected.
They know of two people who died of heart problems within a day of the shot.
I'm sure celebrants of the vaccine deity will blame statistics, but the families blame the vaccine.
