Florida and Miami don’t play every year in football, but the Gators and Hurricanes still consider each other rivals. It appears the bitterness of the rivalry boiled over in Orlando after UF’s 24-20 win over UM.
CollegeMarching.com is reporting that after the game the Florida band was in its “parade order marching to their buses after the game outside of (Camping World Stadium) when a group of Miami fans tried to push their way into the band block.” The Director of the Gator Band, Dr. Jay Watkins, reportedly saw the commotion and went over to de-escalate. Watkins was reportedly placed in a chokehold and slammed to the concrete, hitting his head. The report also states that a member of the band was allegedly punched in the face and had a bloody nose.

Read the same report. Sad if true, but didn't find many details. Don't know if the "fans" were students, alumni or just fans. In any event, no excuse for this behavior. Thankfully, these fans normally don't spill in over into UM's other sports.
UM is a relatively small, private university, with only 11,000 undergraduates. It is also not cheap, with the annual cost (tuition, room and board, etc.) over $65,000 per year. Academically, it is rated by USNWR at #53, which is quite high given its size. It has excellent programs in law, medicine and marine biology, to name a few.
It has a beautiful campus, and is not located in Miami, but in Coral Gables - one of the most beautiful (and expensive) areas in south Florida. See the Zillow link to buy a home in there.
