Currently, the National Guard is composed of the Army National Guard and the Air Force National Guard.

Recently Seven states, according to Wiki, have organized a Space National Guard.
    Space National Guard - Wikipedia

    1) Do we need a Space Guard
    2) Should the Navy and Marines have National Guard units?
    3) Should all Army/Air Force Reserve units become part of the National Guard?

I do not think we need a Navy and Marine (aka...foot sailors) National Guard.

About 8 years ago they were considering combining the USAR with the ARNG. I retired and do not know if they are now. The idea was that there is no need for the Army and Airforce Reserves since the National Guard can be called for State or Federal needs.

Thats my thinking - in addition
    Additional resources for Governors
and we could do away with some additional HQ's.

Also, NG tends to be Infantry div
where the Reserves are Combat support, Medical, supply, maint, ect
Lets say there is a medical emergancy- then the Governor call up the Medical units

One other question: the Mayor of DC is not authorized to call up the DC NG - must be approved by the SecArmy ---- So should the DC Mayor be authorized to call up the DC Guard.

Here is one Tibit - DC has a larger population that Wyoming and Vermont
