What kind of natural suppliments do you take?
For example, I know someone who takes melatonin to help them sleep.

Where do you find it? Someone told me that Walmart sells it, but I couldn't find it. Of course, it would help to know exactly where it is in the store.

Melatonin? It is in the pharmacy section with vitamins and the like. They come in different strengths.

My older sister tried taking Melatonin to help with her sleep, said it gave her really weird dreams and nightmares, she couldn't stand it. She only took a very small dose too, perhaps one-half or one-fourth a tablet. Never tried it myself.
I was wondering when someone here would get around to asking about suppliments and what kinds people take.
Personally I take CoQ10, Fish Oil, Vitamin D (large dose-at least 2000mg), Vitamin C, a Lutein-Zeaxanthan blend, extra B12 (due to a drug I take that affects B12 absorption) and a multi-vitamin.
The Vitamin C I take in divided doses (half in the morning, half at night) because I read that when you take a dose of Vitamin C (for example-1000 mg), your body might only absorb 300 or 400 mg, the rest is flushed out of the body. In less than 12 hours all the Vitamin C you took is long gone.
If you divide that 1000 mg dose into two 500 mg doses taken 12 hours apart, your body would absorb more over a 24 hr. period (maybe 600 or 700 mg total) and you would be less depleted at the end of 12 hours becsuse your body absorbs more. The body can only absorb so much Vitamin C at one time, your body can't save the excess. -
I take a one a day daily mens health vitamin, then in the day I take a garlic type pill for collesteral, and one for the same thing at night called red yeast rice. I get an extended release for the red yeast rice. It has statin in it like lipitor and you don't need constant blood tests.:wavey::godisgood:

I strength train so take protein powder as a needed supplement (usually about 35g every other day, depending on my workout routine). Generally do not take vitamins, but I regularly drink smoothies containing multiple fruits and also juice using veggies. It’s important to get your fiber and drink plenty of water when getting extra nutrients that way.
BTW, a good article on protein powder: http://www.experiencelifemag.com/issues/january-february-2010/fit-body/pick-your-protein-powder.html -

PS: I take glucosomene (sp) for joints, and after about a week or so after starting, I realized that I don't hurt as much; so for me this works.
Also take "biotin" at Dr recommendation for lousy nails - not convinced that it helps at all! -
