Now that the congressional game of musical chairs is over and Republicans have most of the chairs, it’s time for the Bush-era neocons to come out of the woodwork.
For instance, former Secretary of State and CFR darling Condi Rice.
Rice told Fox, the closest thing neocons have to their own news network, that Americans “don’t like the world that they get when the United States is not deeply engaged and deeply involved,” in other words invading small countries and killing people for the sake of banks and transnational corporations.
“What we’re seeing is that when the United States steps back and speaks softly, nobody listens,” she said.
So now is the time to dust off the Bush legacy, not that it is significantly different than the foreign policy legacy attributed to the current teleprompter reader in the White House. “And so I think the American people are ready, I think the world is ready, for stronger American leadership,” Condi said.
If corporate polls can be believed, in April the American people by a margin of 51% to 17% said the United States government should stop trying to “solve world problems,” a euphemism for invading and bombing countries disapproved by the ruling elite, a clique Condi nuzzled up to as an international affairs fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.
Oh come on now Crabby, why so glum? Now the neocons can finally turn the heat up under all the wars Obama kept simmering for them. Soon the pot will be boiling over and the military industrial complex will be dividing their plunder and dancing with joyous revelry!
So why do you side with those who destabilize and destroy nations and enslave men in the name of freedom? Oh wait I think I know, because they tell you what you want to hear, right?
Ya, nothing like a song that was written to encourage the Yankees to destroy the pagan Southerns. It is a disgrace that any church would sing this song.
Unfortunately, the Battle Hymn of the Republic does not deal with what you are talking about.
It dealt with the abolition of slavery, a Christian position.
Some denominations also have the Star Spangled Banner in their hymnals.
Down through the decades, Americans have wondered about Yankee brutality in that war. Lee invaded the North, but that sublime Christian hero forbade any forays against civilians. Military genius Stonewall Jackson stood like a stone wall and routed the Yankees at Manassas, but when Barbara Frietchie insisted on flying the Yankee flag in Frederick, Maryland, rather than the Stars and Bars, that sublime Christian hero commanded, according to John Greenleaf Whittier, “‘Who touches a hair of yon gray head/Dies like a dog! March on!’ he said.”
But the Yankees, invading the South, were monsters, killing, raping and destroying civilian property. In one Georgia town, some 400 women were penned in the town square in the July heat for almost a week without access to female facilities. It got worse when the Yankee slime got into the liquor. Some two thousand Southern women and children were shipped north to labor as slaves. Didn’t you learn that in school?
No doubt, but how revisionist history and liberal college professors have twisted the truth. ISIS has nothing on the Federal government and what they did to the Southerners.
Wonder how many people on here would vote to have the government enforce their ideas of morality on everyone? Very few people care about how many laws or regulations the government comes up with. Bunch of sheeple.
In my experience here it depends on the issue. Those who call themselves conservatives don't seem to mind expanding the federal government in both size and scope so long as it gives them a sense of doing what's right.
And the liberals here? What can I say? They're liberals, they believe the government can solve all our problems by stealing from some to give to others for "the greater good" and the welfare state.
The conservatives play the same game only they'll defend stealing from some to give to others to support the warfare and police states. They aren't quite the collectivists the liberals are yet but I suppose we should cut them some slack because the liberals have a pretty good head start on them.
Some from either side will grumble about the police state from time to time when it steps on their toes but on the whole both sides have become authoritarian and see the government as a means to control the other side and mold society "nearer to their heart's desire".
Few seem to know or care what the proper role of government is anymore because they're so focused on defeating their political foes and giving up their liberties for security they've forgotten if they ever knew.
There used to be some real conservatives and constitutionalists here but they sort of wandered off after the neocons co opted the republican party and the Wilsonian progressive conservatives started looking for excuses to keep increasing the size of government to continue in their nation building experiments and being "tough on crime".
Oh come on now CMG we no longer have debates here you know that as well as anyone.
