Helen, (the poster being properly chastened from the above thread), there are two very disturbing items: the (continued) vandalism of Joseph's Tomb and (again, continued) controversy over the Temple Mount.
These should be a warning to us that extremists do consider the American efforts in the Middle East in religious terms, no matter how much the Bush administration tries to reassure the Islamic nations.
Just a musing: If bin Laden truly considered his efforts a jihad, why did he target the World Trade Center and not St. Patrick's or St. John's or the National Cathedral? Is it because he thinks that business is America's real god, or because he has no idea how important religion is to Americans?
