Well, the New Jerusalem Bible has been updated. The RNJB is on sale for $9:29. But that includes just the New Testament and Psalms for now.
I have made threads before regarding the NJB. It's in the mediating category. But the RNJP will move more to the left side of the ledger.
I think the NJB is dandy. It fares well against the NET, NIV, CSB, HCSB etc.
So first I'll point out some snips that I like from the book of Matthew.
6:2 : to win human admiration
11:29 : shoulder my yoke
16:17 : it was no human agency
19:3 : on any pretext whatever?
19:26 : By human resources...this is impossible
20:15 : Have I no right to do what I like with my own?
[that's much better than the typical --"with my own money."]
22:16 : human rank means nothing to you
27:9 : the sum at which the precious One was priced by the children of Israel
Now on to some snips where I hope the revision elimates these weaknesses:
1:25 [too graphic]
4:4 : Human beings live not on bread alone
[too akward]
4:10 : do homage
5:11 : speak all kinds of calumny against you
5:19 : infringes even one of the least of these commandments
5:31 : writ of dismissal
5:32 : illicit marriage
5:40 : your tunic
[shirt will do just fine]
7:25 : it was founded on rock
8:17 : carried our diseases
8:31 : the devils
[demons is better]
9:22,23 : saved
[healed is better]
9:24 : [It has Jesus saying] Get out of here.
9:32 : a dumb demoniac
10:8 : virulent skin diseases
10:10 : no haversack
10:23 : gone the round of towns
10:24 : Disciple is not superior to teacher
10:25 : It is enough for disciple
10:32 : in the presence of human beings
["people" will do fine]
13:8 : a hundred-fold
13:25 : sowed darnel
[weeds is a better word choice]
14:25 : the fourth watch
14:30 : took fright
14:32 : the wind dropped
18:7 : Causes of falling indeed there must be
18:16 : whatever the misdemeanour
25:35 : you gave me drink

I have the feeling that Brits will appreciate the readings I think need to be changed. ;-)
