But to as many as did receive him, to those who put their trust in his person and power, he gave the right to become children of God,
HCSB
HUH???
gave them the right to become children of God?
No one has a right to become children of God. Even Paul saw himself as not worthy, yet MV's say we have the right?

Please help us Bereans who also have
to work for a living
by citing references.
Thank you.
(That would be version, book, chapter, verse) -
If the Bible says God or Christ GAVE
the right to become Children of God,
you defy God to say
"No one has a right to become children of God".
I know nobody has a right to become of
child of God unless God grants it. -
It is a waste of my time to have people misquote
the Bible.
Please check the quotations of verses that you
get from OTHER SOURCES.
Many KJVO sources are totally unreliable when
quoting non KJV1769 Edition sources,
they have no respect for the 'other' Bibles :(
John 1:12 (HCSB):
But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, -
John 1:12 (KJV1769 edition with Strongs):
Joh 1:12 But1161 as many as3745 received2983 him,846 to them846 gave1325 he power1849 to become1096 the sons5043 of God,2316 even to them that believe4100 on1519 his846 name:368
Strong's says:
G1849
ἐξουσία
exousia
ex-oo-see'-ah
From G1832 (in the sense of ability); privilege, that is, (subjectively) force, capacity, competency, freedom, or (objectively) mastery
(concretely magistrate, superhuman, potentate,
token of control), delegated influence: - authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power,
right, strength.
I don't see any problem with the HCSB translation.
What does the NLT (ON TOPIC) say? -
ohn 1:12 But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name,
sorry, posted the complete Jewish Bible instead of the HSCB. Blind eyes do err from time to time, but it still remains, we have not the right, we deserve hell. We were given power to become, not the right to become. -
NLT John 1:12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

The Douay-Rheims Bible, the Catholic Bible
agrees with the KJV1769:
John 1:12 (Douay-Rheims Bible):
But as many as received him,
he gave them power to be made the sons of God,
to them that believe in his name.
And the Geneva Bible is interesting.
Joh 1:12 (The Geneva Bible, 1586):
But as many as receiued him,
' to them he gaue prerogatiue to be
the sonnes of God, euen to them
that beleeue in his Name.
Let us consider the commandment of God:
2Co 13:1 (KJV1611 Edition):
This is the third time I am comming to you:
in the mouth of two or three witnesses
shal euery word be established.
Thus is behoves us to use 2 or 3 Bibles
at minimum to find the truth of a scripture.

Ed, the Geneva rendering is interesting. . . to say the least.
Since the Geneva came to America on the Mayflower and was considered "the" Bible for the protestant movement, then it is surprising that someone has not made a republication as they have with the King James version one (1611 edition). -
You can get them, but they're not cheap. They start at $100.
