If I were in charge, reality TV celebrity Sarah Palin told the recent convention of the National Rifle Association, “waterboarding is how we [would] baptize terrorists.”

Perhaps, as a friend of mine commented, Mrs. Palin would describe force-feeding of hunger strikers in Gitmo as a form of Communion.

The calculated gibe – a casual blasphemy — was a flawless applause line for Palin’s audience, which drew heavily from among conservatives of the sort who are expansively skeptical of power unless it is deployed with lethal effect against anybody the Government has designated an enemy.

Nuremberg Barbie’s punchline mocked both a sacred gesture of Christian commitment and the ineffaceable humanity of those accused of terrorism and other grievous crimes. Christian tradition and teaching have recognized for centuries that torture is not only ineffective in practical terms, but an abominable sin and a horrible crime.

Does Sarah Palin believe that the Prince of Peace – who was tortured before giving His Life for our salvation – would support or countenance torture? A distressingly large number of American Evangelical Christians appear to think so.

I'm positive that's how she meant it.

She was raised Catholic, and attended whacko Pentecostal churches for a while. I think she's pretty ecumenical, now.

I know, I know you're to busy rushing in to shoot the messenger (as usual) to worry about spelling.

Nuremberg. You remember. It was the place where the Nazis were put on trial and found guilty then hung by the neck until they were dead for what our government has been doing as a routine matter since 9/11/2001.

I agree that statement wasn't very well thought out. Most of the so called "conservatives" here love using government force to stifle freedom and control others every bit as much as the democrats they're always railing against for doing the same thing.

Yes, I remember Nuremberg. And I remember Klaus Barbie was put on trial in absentia. But I DID NOT know that since 9/11 the U.S. government has been committing genocide against the Jews by gassing them. I guess I learn something new every day.

I really can't argue with that...

I'm with you. It is the left that makes nasty remarks in public about women. The left does not want to talk about the Islamic war against women, the real physical abuse of women that is so barbaric that it is almost unspeakable.

Sarah Palin is a former beauty queen, as you know. She is a lot of fun and the left has no one like her.

Nice side step there. You're getting pretty good at that.

But I guess when you don't want to see what's right in front of you deflection and misdirection is the best policy.

The only "reason" you're even in this thread is to do your shoot the messenger thing.

Haven't you got something better to do like keeping track of how many politicians can dance on the head of a pin?

A man ought to stick with what he's best at.

The right doesn't want to talk about how their illegal un constitutional wars have made it easier for Islamic men to abuse women so they blame the left by saying things like you just said.
