Where does the Constitution empower the feds to "defend" marriage?
-
Our system is based on the Consitution AND Common Law. -
knew it would happen. and there are christians having trouble seeing the evil of this man. read the bible and this evil becomes evident.

You are aware, aren't you, that the homosexual agenda is trying to use the "feds" to give them special rights? -
I favor DOMA. However, I have a problem with the fact that DOMA restricts the rights of states on the issue of marriage. Marriage is a state issue, and I'm not comfortable with the feds getting involved, regardless of where one stands on DOMA.
-
Well get ready because soon the feds will force the states to recognize gay marriage.

Sounds good to me. I've never been in favor of DOMA. It doesn't threaten my marriage if others, who are not Christians, marry someone they choose.
I don't believe Christians have the right to force their beliefs on those who don't believe like they do.
This country was founded on religious freedom, which includes the right to not practice any religion at all. -
Here's the problem for that position: God isn't going to longsuffer this nation perverting the institution He created with what He considers to be an abomination forever. Sooner or later judgement shall fall on this nation. Now, while I believe He shall preserve the faithful, I'd also rather not see this nation brought down for such sins.
And by the way, being against homosexual marriage isn't necessarily being in favor of God. It's being in favor of the natural order of things. Look in nature and what do you see: rampant homosexuality? Of course not, the animals have enough sense to know males go with females. Sadly the human race does not. Men with men and women with women is not only an abomination, it doesn't make sense either. -
It is statements like this from Obama supporters that make me realize Satan is the puppetmaster.... -
-
God didn't create the institution of marriage. God created the covenant of marriage. Entering into a legal marriage does not automatically imply a sacred covenant. A sacred covenant requires much more than a legal contract.

1. It's not a far jump from this statement to the lie of "you cannot legislate morality." That's a lie. Laws are an enforcement, in some manner, of a moral code. (Of course, there are bad laws, and poor morals enforced. But hopefully, I made a clear point here).
2. What does "not practice any religion at all" have to do with the DOMA? That law does not force anyone to worship God, or a false god.
But hey...why not let 3 people marry? 5 people? A whole town? Or let people marry their pet armadillos? Why have any rules? All they do is get in the way... -

Good to see is keeping at least some of his campaign promises:tongue3:

There seems to be a double standard going on here. There are those not wanting the government to interfere in healthcare, something they are decidedly against, yet they want the federal government to protect marriage (like that is even possible).
We are probably headed to a situation where we will loose the government recognized marriages all together. We will end up with across the board civil unions for tax and legal reasons and with people having to choose to have a church marriage ceremony.
Actually that sounds pretty good to me, the courts get what they need and the churches get what they want - the freedom to bless whomever they choose. -
Even if it is a double standard, is that necessarily bad all the time? The stage on which legislation is played is frequently wrought with imperfections, inconsistencies, and double standards. Welcome to the world of the democratic process, warts and all.
