Polish prime minister demands Obama address Nazi gaffe

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk angrily demanded Wednesday that President Barack Obama explain his reference to "a Polish death camp" during a high-profile White House ceremony a day earlier, saying the remark smacked of "ignorance, lack of knowledge, bad intentions" and amounted to "a distortion of history."

One wonders what the reaction would have been had George Bush, or Sarah Palin, or any other Republican, for that matter, would have been had they made the same blunder. Actually, we all know. Republicans are rubes and idiots.

Obama will be given a pass in the media, and of Poland it will be said that they are overreacting. Obama is smart. He's a Nobel Prize winning law professor. He doesn't make such stupid mistakes.

It's only a misstatement that warrants an offer of regret. No apology will be offered.

Kinda like "corps" man.

No matter what the gaffe or how many times, he always gets a free pass from the liberal media.

The only reason Poland didn't invent the gas chambers is that they no one had the idea. Maybe this generation has "reformed."

I work with several Polish people, and they think Obama is a great statesman. The fact that he is a good speaker (and he does speak well) seems to be all that matters to them.

I brought this up to them at work today, they were a little shocked.

"President Obama's remarks are already being called 'scandalous' by media outlets in Poland," Alex Storozynski, the president of the New York City-based Polish-American Kosciuszko Foundation, told ABC News. "Obama was seen reading this phrase off a teleprompter. The President must acknowledge his mistake and apologize for it. He must do it for Karski and the other Poles that risked their lives trying to stop the Holocaust," Storozynski said.

Obama simply reads well, but he doesn't have a clue what he is saying. They will blame this on an aide, but this shows that Obama doesn't know anything about history, and neither do those around him.

I am curious if their attitude toward Obama will change as a result of this.

Polish PM blasts Obama on ‘camps’

The day after the White House expressed regret about President Barack Obama’s use of the phrase “Polish death camps,” the Prime Minister of Poland on Wednesday said the administration’s statement didn’t go far enough and called on the U.S. to “end this with class.”

“We always react in the same way when ignorance, lack of knowledge, bad intentions lead to such a distortion of history, so painful for us here in Poland, in a country which suffered like no other in Europe during World War II,” said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in a statement Wednesday. “The words uttered yesterday by the president of the United States Barack Obama concerning ‘Polish death camps’ touched all Poles.”

He added, “Here, in Poland, we cannot accept such words, even if they are spoken by the leader of a friendly power — or perhaps especially in such situations — since we expect diligence, care and respect from our friends on issues of such importance as World War II remembrance.”

When a representative of a country (President, Ambassador, etc.) offends another country, that can be taken as though the insult came from that country and not just an individual. All I know about Polish people is that a sister of my mother married one. He was nice enough but almost always drunk. I didn't know he drank until I saw him sober once.
