Almost everyone on this board agrees that abortion is sin that is abhorrent in God's eyes and recongizes that Obama is not pro-life. I am encouraged that Obama will approach this topic sensitively in a fashion that will acknowledge the concerns of both sides of this debate and work towards practical solutions that both sides can agree on.

    Your "encouragement" is misplaced.

Obama is an inveterate , incurable abortion advocate and enabler.

His silky words are meant to get people of principles, morals, and convictions to compromise theirs.

    No thanks.

I guess morality is "above his pay grade."

It sounds to me like he wants people to stick to their principles, morals and convictions.

Isn't this the same guy who is OK with even killing babies that happen to SURVIVE abortions?

No thanks Mr. President .. there is no debate or compromise on this issue with me.

We don't. Murderers should be demonized.

Have you ever tried to speak out of both sides of your mouth at the same time? Obama does this quite well.

The question I would ask him or any other pro-"choice" person, is why do you want to reduce the number of abortions? If it is completely up to choice, then if women choose abortion, they choose abortion.

The inconsistency in Obama's statement about reducing the number of abortions is that it implies that abortion is not desirable, otherwise we shouldn't care how many abortions there are. Why is abortion not desirable? The next implication is that it is not desirable, because abortion is wrong. Well, if it is wrong, why is it legal in the first place?

Thus, people like Obama who make these statements are talking out of both sides of their mouth. They are trying to placate the other side. It is inconsistent at best, or disingenuous at worst.

So you have been conned by obama. Every act he has done related to abortion since taking office is to expand this practice. One of his first acts was to eliminate the Bush policy that refused to provide funds supporting abortion in foreign countries. Now he talks about "joining hands in a common effort". What common effort? Using a slick tongue and teleprompters to con people into accepting the slaughter of more unborn children.

This person is a disgrace, not just to America, but to the human race!

==First, there are no "practical solutions" here. Abortion is murder and it is wrong. The only solution is an end to the horrible practice. Any allowance for abortion is allowance for murder. Second, Obama's record does not show a man who approaches this topic "sensitively". This is a man who voted for partial birth murder. There is nothing sensitive about that. Obama's idea of a solution to the abortion question is to silence all prolife advocates.

It is probably because he has a teleprompter on each side!

I thought so also Tiny... I think he gave hope and extended his hand by offering to discuss our differences so we can find common ground. I was also encouraged by his passion to stop the reasons so many feel they need abortions. If we can stop the reasons people feel they need an abortion we can stop abortion. We can also save fetuses by making sure viable alternatives to abortion are readily available and encouraged from high places.

I am surprised to see so many closed minds that don't realize even if we never achieve total victory, one baby not aborted or one embryo saved from the trash can is success and God will be pleased.

I don't see "all or nothing" or "my way or no way" as realistically working to achieving progress in this land of varying views.

That is not what he said today in his speech so why can't he be given a chance to back up his words or prove himself a liar? He in fact said the opposite of what you just said but he did ask if we can use "fair minded" words when we discuss the issue. I think that is fair...

What kind of words are "fair" when discussing the whole sale slaughter of unborn children? What kind of words are "fair" when speaking to a man who opposed the bill to protect children who survive abortions?

And what is "fair" to those children?

"Blah blah blah," said one of the supporters of the abortionist in chief.
