I applaud this move by our president.
Obama Tries to Set a Bipartisan Tone in Trip to Meet With Hill Republicans
By Edward Epstein and Kathleen Hunter, CQ Staff
When President Obama motors up to the Capitol on Tuesday for back-to-back sessions with House and Senate Republicans, he will be searching for support for his stimulus plan and trying to foster a spirit of openness that might come in handy for future legislative battles.
Congressional historians say the new Democratic president’s trip to Congress to speak to the opposing party’s members might be historic. “A formal address by the president of the United States to the opposing party’s respective caucus or conference on Capitol Hill is unusual,” said Anthony Wallis, a researcher with the Office of the House Historian.

Hopefully some of his more intelligent and wise advisors will help him to avoid the "I won" silliness that he tried earlier. That was neither intelligent nor wise. It was jr. hi.
-
Ain't this all real sweet?

Great! But what will be the results of the meeting? We'll have to wait and see (although I'm not really holding on to much "hope and change").

Right. Bipartisan. Sure.

Isn't he calling this a "cocktail party" ?
You would have to be very drunk to think this is a good idea. -

He is being hailed as a failure who cannot now nor has ever united anyone.

Based on the vote in the House today it is rather apparent that the House Republicans put their fear of crossing Rush Limbaugh ahead of the good of the country.

Yeah, it had nothing to do with the angry phone calls from voters. It's all Rush.
But Obama can still get it passed. Wonder why he won't.......maybe HE's the one afraid of Rush. -
It did pass. There is no won't.

Democrats can never be trusted. -

Not a crybabyboomer. Big difference.

Obama also had the GOP leader to the WH to meet with him, he has send aids to meet with them each time they asked and he went himself and met with them in the capitol. Many view that as a president who really tried. -

And many view it as what it is.
It's a little too cold around here for me to drink Kool-Aid. You enjoy yours. -

I truly believe Obama will listen and work with them if they would come to the table of negotiation and not the table of my way or no way.
It was that my way or no way attitude that made Obama flame them down with two words, "I won". So now they fold their arms and say you hurt my feelings so I won't play anymore. Don't they remember how that childish demeanor hurt them during the first bailout vote when they claimed Pelosi hurt their feelings so they voted to leave our entire financial system at risk? When will they learn.
Sorry to vent guys but I am genuinely disappointed with the GOP. -
LeBuick, whatever you are smoking over there ... pass it around. That has to be good stuff to come up with what you are saying.
Obama is the "my way or the high way." He didn't reach across the aisle (not isle). He talked to them and said, "I won. This is how it's going to be. Vote for it." The Republicans said no and offered an alternative.
Why aren't you blaming Obama for not taking the Republican bill and adding things to it to get what he wanted?
Inviting them over for drinks is not bipartisanship.
