Old Codger's Club

A New Year demands a New Name to our illustrious band of brothers (and cistern). Many duck lovers took offense at our OLD COOTS CLUB, so we have reorganized it and renamed it.

600 years ago young men and royalty enjoyed the sport of "falconry". They trained birds, hawks, et al to hunt and do battle.

When the men grew too old to train and carry the birds, they were often asked to carry the "cadge" (pronounced "codge") which was a wood perch on a stand and often included a cage of yew. Hence the modern English word "cage" from the same root.

These older men were called "codgers". They played an integral role, working with and supporting the younger men in the fray.

So we are dubbing our group the OLD CODGER'S CLUB. Dues are free, age limit is discretionary, and bibs mandatory. As for bladder control? It all depends.

Turning 50 this October qualifies me in my 12 year-old's eyes, and, being a grandfather 3x gets me in! Sign me up! (does this get us a discount at the mo-tel?)

Feel that this is a good start. All membership is voluntary and must be made by the individual. If they are too old, infirmed, senile or mentally incabably -- which, of course, describes half the BB -- then recommendations from [former] friends will be considered.

I'm 53 and hubby is 56. Does that qualify me? If so, count me in!

Well, you're only as old as you feel (so I'm between 15 and 97, depending on the day of the week!!!).

Toss me onto the pile. I may be the youngest of the bunch (not the first time for me), but I act and think like a 70 year old!

In Christ,
Trotter

They say - that a mind is a terrible thing to waste -

But of course so is a dish of pasta!

Dan - if you saw my waste-line - you'd know that I've never wasted much food!

Did you mean "waistline" Gib?

Or are you talking about all the frivolous posts we do here? Those would certainly be "waste lines".

A somewhat eccentric man, especially an old one.
Uh Oh..... I'm not a man and I'm not eccentric! Hmmm..... What to call us, what to call us? Maybe the women should all be called 'Minnie Paw's'!

In 1400, the definition was in effect "Too old to be productive, but still working".

There are days. There are days.
